Robert “Dean” Golden, 79, of New Cumberland, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011.
Born May 19, 1932 in Doddridge County, WV, a son of he late Criss and Ethel Hill Golden.
Dean was a Korean War, Army veteran, a 1950 graduate of Wallace High School and retired from Weirton Steel. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men and a past member of the W.Va. National Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the National Archery Association.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with neighbors.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael; an infant daughter, Sue Ellen; and two brothers, Criss Golden Jr., and James Allen Golden.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Murray Golden of New Cumberland; two sons, David Lee (Cindy) Golden of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and Robert Lynn Golden of Harrisburg, NC; three grandsons, Criss Robert (Lindsey) Golden of Tennessee, Craig Michael Golden and Corey Ryan Golden both of Harrisburg, North Carolina; two sisters, Mary Margaret (Robert) Wolfe and Florence Ann (Larry) Fleming all of Clarksburg.
Funeral services were held at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Pastor Bob Staub officiated.
Burial followed at New Cumberland Cemetery.

Linda Lou White, 63, of Plutus Av, Chester, passed away on Wed., June 1, 2011 at the Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness.
Linda was born in Wheeling on July 18, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert J. ST Myers and Mildred B. Johnson St Myers.
She taught school for 23 years in the Hancock County public school system and later worked for 10 years at the National Church Supply Company in Chester.
Linda was a member of the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester where she enjoyed participating in the Ladie’s Work Days
She graduated from Wheeling High School in 1965 and received her BA in Education from West Liberty College in 1969. Linda continued her education at West Virginia University where she earned her Masters in Communications in 1985.
Survivors include four sisters, Lois Jean (and the late Raymond) Dougherty of Wheeling, Carol Lee (Dennis) Wright of Wheeling, Roberta Kay (Richard) Crain of Benwood, and Mary Beth (Thomas) Conner of Wheeling. In addition four aunts and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Evangelist Frank Higginbotham of the church conducted services on Friday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester. Private interment was held at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

Vernard W. Stewart, 81, of Wylie Ridge, Weirton, passed away on Sunday, May 29, at his home.
H was a son of he late Francis B. and Lavurna M. Crawford Stewart and was born on February 26, 1930 at Holidays Cove (Weirton).
Vernard retired from Weirton Steel after 33 years where he last worked as the Superintendent of Maintenance in the Strip Steel Electric Department.
He was a member of the Paris Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Trustee.
His wife Lois S. Truex Stewart preceded him in death on February 3, 2008. They had been married on September 21. 1949. One brother, Francis Stewart also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son Terry L. Stewart and his wife Nancy of Weirton; a daughter, Sherry L. Stewart of Weirton; a brother, Kenneth Stewart of Wintersville; a granddaughter, Nicole Leinweber of Worthington, OH; and a grandson, Nathan Tucker of New York, NY.
Private interment services were held at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Weirton.
Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester was in charge of arrangements.

Tammy Sue Morris, 45, of Chester, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 21, 1965 in East Liverpool, a daughter of Adaline Keller Morris of Chester and the late Lonnie Morris Jr.
Tammy was a 1983 graduate of Oak Glen High School and a former warehouseman for Wal-Mart.
Along with her father, she was preceded in death by three children, Dillon Brooks, Tasha Morris and Heather Brooks and a brother, Jefferey “Goober” Mooris.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Dereck Brooks and Nathan Gilmore both of North Carolina; two brothers, Lonnie Morris III of Chester and Todd (Sue) Morris of Newell; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell. Pastor Mark Hunt officiated.

Emma B. Congo, 80, lifelong resident, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the East Liverpool City Hospital after a brief bout with cancer.
Emma was born on Feb. 4, 1931 in Lawrenceville section of Chester and was a daughter of the late William R. and Bessie Pugh Wright.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Marion Congo, whom she married on June 11, 1949, three sons, Larry Congo of Toronto, Carl (Susan) Congo of East Liverpool, and Bruce Congo of New Manchester; three daughters, Joyce (Durand)
Champney of Columbiana, Jackie (Bill) Hess of East Liverpool, and Betty Jo (Kelly) Bruce of Gotha, FL; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
A member of the Congo Church of the Nazarene, Emma had served as an assistant Sunday School Teacher.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Wright and sisters, Bernice
Springer, Betty Blosser, and Pauline Stiglet.
Rev. Carolyn Hardy conducted funeral services on Monday, May 23, at the Arner Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at the Hookstown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Emma’s name to the Relay for Life in care of the Tri-State Federal Credit Union at 127 W. Sixth St., East Liverpool, OH43920.

Babette Fineman, 82, of Chester, passed away at her home after a prolonged illness on Monday, May 23, 2011.
Born in Latrobe, Pa, May 29, 1928, Babette was a daughter of the late Irving & Marianna Levoy Lowenstein and sister of the late Freddy & Ben Lowenstein.
Babette had a professional career as a high school teacher at Oak Glen High School and as an Associate Professor at Kent State University. She obtained her Bachelors, Masters and Post Graduate degrees.
She was a member of Beth Shalom Congregation, Hadassah, and sisterhood. She also volunteered her time at the American Red Cross,
East Liverpool City Hospital, and was the Masters of Ceremony at many fundraisers. Her hobbies included knitting, needlepoint, bridge, and her beloved Rowdies Group.
Surviving are her husband, Alvin’ her children, Richard and his wife Sharon, Steve, and Janet and her husband Paul Winschel; six grandchildren, Joshua, Marcy, Lacey, Morgan, Samy, and Shoshana; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester followed by burial at B’nai Jacob Cemetery in East Liverpool.

Dennis S. Smith, 64, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Valley Hospice care Center North, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Newell December I, 1946, he was the son of the late Clyde L. and Vaughn D. Smith.
Denny was a lifetime resident of the area, graduating form the first class from Oak Glen High School in 1964. Te retired in 2002 as a caster operator at the BOP of the former Weirton Steel and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester where he served as a trustee.
Stationed near the DMZ during the Vietnam War, he served in the US Army and was a member of both VFW Post #6450 and American Legion Post #121, where he had served as Commander and with the Sons of the Legion group.
Surviving at home is wife of 28 years, Rosemary; her Mother Vera “Grandma” Miller, of Chester; four daughters, Stephanie Smith (Kevin) Strasser, of Pittsburgh, Stacey Smith, of Hershey, Kassy Kelley (Greg) Hewitt, of Fayetteville, WV and Randi Smith of Morgantown; eight grandchildren, Kendall Green, Denni Marie Strasser, Will and & Kelan Swan and Alex, Anna, Sam and Coralea Hewitt.
Rev. Trina Lewis conducted funeral services at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester.
Burial followed in Locust Hill Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and WV National Guard detail.
Arner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Bonevere E. (Bonnie) Nelson, 87, of Chester, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at East Liverpool City Hospital.
A daughter of the late Walter A. and Catherine Carraher Wehner, Bonnier was born on April 3, 1924 in Chester.
She retired as a supervisor from Ohio
Bell in East Liverpool where she had been employed for 35 years.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester where she was a Eucharistic Minister, active in the clothes closet, and past president of the Ladies Guild.
Bonnie graduated from Chester High School and was a member of the Ohio Bell Pioneers,
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul M and Cindy Nelson of Chester; brothers, William Wehner of Chester, Thomas (Virginia) Wehner of Calcutta, and Dudley (Ann) Wehner of Warren; sisters, Noreen McPherson of Chester, Martha Roetzel of Va., Lois Ann Stoy of IL.; and Catherine (Lewis) McIntosh of East Liverpool. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Along her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Mary Wehner, and Regina M. Wehner; and two brothers John and Regis Wehner.
Rev. Father Eric Antwi presided for a Mass of Christian Burial on Sat., May 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Private interment followed at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Lawrence “Fereyle” Moore, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011.
He was born August 29, 1928 and also raised on Rines Ridge, Marshall County.
He was the son of the late Paul and Mamie Moore. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Jean Moore in June 2009 and a daughter, Judy Qualls, April 1994.
He was retired from the Weirton Steel Corporation with 25 years of service where he was a brakeman on the railroad. He also ran the family farm in New Cumberland.
He was an Army veteran in the Korean War serving in Germany. Lawrence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Steubenville where he served on the Board of Deacons.
He was a former member of Moose 688, Oakland Sportsman Club and the Masonic Lodge of Weirton, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Wheeling and the American Legion of Hookstown.
Lawrence is survived by daughters, Elaine (ED) Frey of Toledo, Ohio, Louise (Stan) Simich of Weirton, brother, Hiram V. (Dorothy) Moore of Davenport, Florida; grandchildren; Donna Panek and Jackie (Shawn) Ronan of Michigan, Brian Barkley and Shannen (Dr. Alvin) Ginier of New Cumberland, Eddie (Jen) Frey of Cleveland, Drs. Matthew (Heather) Frey of Columbus; great grandchildren, Hailey and Taylor Barkley of Weirton, Summer Panek and Shawn Ronan of Michigan, Sophia and Zac Frey of Cleveland, and Genevieve Ginier of New Cumberland.
He will be sadly missed by his loving pets Missy and Snowflake.
Lawrence was a remarkable man. After losing both legs in a railroad accident at Weirton Steel in 1972 he was able to lead a wonderful life, taking care of his farm, run his tractor, climb on his barn roof to paint and repair, feed his animals and enjoy the rural life with is wife Jean and family.
Services were held Monday, May 2nd, 11 a.m. at Nixon Funeral Home, New Cumberland.
Burial followed at Millcreek Cemetery, Hookstown.

Born December 18, 1949 in New Cumberland, a daughter of the late Ralph and Marjorie Moore DeVore.
She was a member of the New Cumberland Christian Church and loved crafting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Mae DeVore, Betty Jean DeVore, Margie Ann Welling and Deloris Sue DeVore; a brother, Ralph Edward Devore Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Goodman of New Cumberland; two sons, Charles (Tina) Fish of Virginia and Aaron (Becky) Fish of Harpers Ferry; five grandchildren, Aaron, Margaret, Charles T., Charles W., and Samuel; a stepson, Neil Goodman of Chester; a stepdaughter, Dawn (Dan) Pierce of Ohioville; two step-grandchildren, Steven and Cory’ five brothers, George (Bernice) DeVore of Ohio, Earl DeVore of Alabama, Samuel DeVore of Follansbee, Richard (Gay) DeVore of Weirton and Robert DeVore of New Cumberland; and a sister Martha (Ronald) Gittings of Weirton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland with Minister Rick Tinksy officiating.
Burial followed at New Cumberland Cemetery.

Randall W. “Randy” Adkins, 49, died Monday April 25, 2011 at Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Center.
Born January 15, 1962 in East Liverpool, he was the son of he late Ezra and Sally Adkins.
Randy graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1980 before serving the country with the Army from 1981-1984. He was working as a detailer for Hertz
Rentals in Pittsburgh International Airport.
Surviving at home is his wife, Carisa Adkins along with their two children, daughter Piper and son Cullen.
Three brothers, John Adkins, of Chester, Paul Adkins, of East Liverpool and Rodney Adkins also of Chester and one sister, Cathy Shaffer, of Sharpsburg, MD, survive as well.
Friends and family gathered for a memorial service at the Arner Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 28, 2011.

Born October 8, 1953 in Weirton, he was a son of the late Okey and Josephine Sampson Davis Sr.
He was a Vietnam Army veteran and a former driver for Fraley & Shilling Trucking.
In addition to his parents, a brother, James David Davis preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Joe Davis Jr. of Columbus and Aaron Daniel Davis of Weirton; a daughter, “Amanda Sue Sponaugle of Weirton; six grandchildren, Michael, Kiya, Jordan, Markel, Taryn and Jakobie; two brothers, Okey Davis Jr. of New Manchester and Gerald Davis of New Martinsville; four sisters, Alice Pratko of Arizona, Cheryl Moore of Clarington, Vickie Nolan of Ohio and Kathy McGuane of Pine Grove.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland.
Burial followed at New Cumberland Cemetery. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and W.Va. National Honor Guard conducted military services.

Born March 13, 1955 in Indiana, Kenneth was a son of the late Arthur and Edythe Delong.
He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a former owner and horse trainer at Mountaineer Race Track and a member of the Newell American Legion.
Surviving are his son, Jacob Delong of Wellsville; three daughters, Jessie Nikole Delong of West Virginia, Tiffany McClung of Weirton and Tracy Keener of Chester, a stepson, Joe Davis of Columbus and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell. The Tri-State Veterans Burial group and the W. Va. National Honor Guard conducted military services.

Born January 10, 1955 in Rochester, New York, he was a son of the late Charles and Alberta Martin Hetrick.
Keith was a former shipping and receiving clerk for C & C Marina and a Methodist by faith.
He is survived by three daughters, Becky Kesser, Rachel Hetrick Keffer and Kimberly Hetrick all of New York; two brothers, William Louk of Alabama and George Hetrick of New Cumberland.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland.

Born March 5, 1917 in Doddridge County, Lola was a daughter of the late James and Maggie Rush Gaskins.
Lola was a retired EKG Technician at Weirton Hospital and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Powell and her second husband, Otis Raines and a son, Edwin Powell.
Lola is survived by three sons, Leon (Bar) Powell of new Cumberland, Larry Powell and Jerry Powell both of Jewett; a daughter-in-law, Carol Powell of Cadiz; and three stepchildren, Terry Raines of New Cumberland, Barbara Delong of Chester and Richard Raines of Virginia; eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland was in charge of arrangements, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 with the Rev. Bob Staub officiating.
Burial followed at New Cumberland Cemetery.

Helen V. Eskra 89, life time area resident, of Phoenix Avenue in Chester passed away on Tuesday April 12, 2011 in the presence of her loving family.
She was born in Newell on August 21, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Carmen J. and Eleanorea S. Pranno Laneve.
Helen was a homemaker, raising and caring for loving family. She is survived by her husband at home; Lewis Eskra, her daughter Frances (Tony) Vinci of West Lake, OH; her two sons, George (Diane) Eskra of Cincinnati, and Gregory (Diann) Eskra of Leetonia; her grandchildren, Karen Zengel, Sarah McKay, Tora, Dana, and Tony Vinci and Austin and Haley Eskra; her great grandchildren, Emilie, Abraham, & Nora Zengel, and Samuel and Jacob McKay. In addition she leaves one brother, Arthur Laneve of Edenton, NC; and three sisters, Mary Hart of Berea, OH; Rose Marie Orlando of Industry, and Florence Meredith of Hookstown. Many nieces and nephews survive as well.
Helen was very passionate about and dedicated to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a past member of the parish council and the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild. She graduated from the former Wells High School in Newell and was a member of the Chester Arts Club, Chester Junior Women’s Club, American Legion Post 121 Auxiliary, Friends of the Lynn Memorial Library, and a former Girl Scout leader.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Anthony and Richard Laneve, and five sisters, Louise Laneve, Theresa Golletti, Ernesta Moore, Josephine Ulizio, and Virginia Misorski.
A Mass of Christian Burial was presided over by Rev. Father Eric Antwi on April 16 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment followed at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

She is survived by her son, Joh, daughter-in-law Cheryl, and two grandsons, Wesley and Drew Cottrill of Harrisburg, NC; her brothers, Ernest Page of Red House, WV and Richard Page of England..
She was preceded in death by her brother James and sister Gloria.
She proudly taught in Hancock County Schools for over 35 years.

Pearl C. “Sue” Nesbitt Shiflett of Empire and formerly of Weirton passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville.
A daughter of the late Ralph Edward Nesbitt and Beulah Roy Nesbitt Jones, she was Born February 13, 1941 in Hendricks, WV.
Sue last worked as deli clerk at the Winn Dixie supermarket in Weddington, NC.
She graduated from Weir High School in 1960 and was a member of the New Manchester Christian Church.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lewis Shiflett; a son, Johnnie L. Shifflett Jr; and two brothers, Gerald “Jack” Nesbitt Sr., and Steve Roy Nesbitt.
Survivors include two sons, Roland E. Shiflett and his friend Jo Ann Herzfeld of Empire and Randy W. Shiflett and his wife Teral of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Barbara (Anthony) Sistilli of Weirton; a brother, Denver L. “Junior” Jo0nes Fr and his wife Marjorie of Weirton; and a grandson, Trenton Shiflett of Cleveland.
Services were held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester.

Ila Jean Watson, 79, of New Cumberland, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011
She was born April 11, 1932 in Hartford, WV, the daughter of the late William and Margaretta Harris Duncan Sr.
Ila Jean was a member of Nessly Chapel, the treasurer for the United Methodist Women’s Society and also served as Trustee and the Superintendent of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Ila was a 1950 graduate of Wells High School.
Along wither parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Duncan.
She is survived by her husband, Chester Dale Watson, of New Cumberland, who she married January 16, 1953; a daughter, Connie (Bob) Macek of New Cumberland; a granddaughter, Melissa; a great-grandson, Kaiden; two sisters, Marlene Duncan of North Carolina and Karen (Art) Miller of Florida, and a brother, Bob (Pat) Duncan of Newell.
Funeral services were held at Nessly Chapel at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Son-in-law Bob Macek will officiate.
Burial will follow at Nessly Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Nessly Chapel or Valley Hospice.
Nixon Funeral Home of Newell was in charge of arrangements.

Enid was a member of the Newell First Church of Christ.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Moore.
She is survived by two sons, John (Norma) Moore of Newell and Sam Alan Moore of Arizona; three grandchildren, Sarah McLane, Windy Moore and Diane Bawman; four great grandchildren, Tristan, Carmen, Mia and Christine; two sisters, Margaret O’Sullivan of Wales and Mildred Bignell of London; a step-granddaughter, Erin (Scot) Markley of Chester and a step-great-grandson, Joseph Markley.
Funeral services were held at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 16,m 2011. Minister George Irin Jr. officiated. Burial followed t Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell.

She was born July 29, 1967 in Charles Town,
WV, a daughter of Tom and Shirley Jenkins Finkbeiner.
Lisa was a 1985 graduate of Oak Glen High School She first worked at Mountaineer Race Track as a groom where she became a trainer and owner, and later worked at Beulah Park and at Thistle Downs.

Along her parents, she is survived by two brothers, David Finkbeiner of Florida and Jeff (Cindy) Finkbeinger of Newell; a sister Paula Bravo of Virginia; an Aunt, Beverly Whitmore of Charles Town and also by her nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by Nixon Funeral Home in Newell. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Thomas Rector, 84, of Newell passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was a son of the late Commodore C. and Evelyn Goddard Rector and was born on December 12, 1926 in Chester.
Tom was a 565 year employee of Homer Laughlin China Company where he retired as Plant Supervisor.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chester, attended the former Chester High School, and had enjoyed playing baseball with the Chester Old Timers baseball team.
Tom served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
A son, Richard Rector, formerly of New Cumberland, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas D. Rector and his wife, Paula of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Terri Taylor and her husband Ron of East Liverpool; a sister, Kathleen Shattenberg of Chester; three grandchildren, Richard “Bud” Rector and his wife Denise of Marshall, TX; and Evan and Michael Rector of Pittsburgh. His faithful companion Ben survives as well.
Rev. Duane Hetzer, Chaplain at East Liverpool city Hospital conducted services on Friday, July 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester. Interment followed at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell where the tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the WV National Guard accorded full military honors.

She was Born November 25, 1955 in East Liverpool, a daughter of Phyllis Bartley Johnson of Johnsonville and the late Leon Johnson.
Mary Ann was a 1975 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a former Dining Room Captain at Benihana Restaurant. She was a member of the Chester American Legion Post 121 Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and the Chester VFW Auxiliary.
Along with her mother she is survived by her husband, Ronald “Red” Miller of Johnsonville; two daughters, Amy (Jeff) Camden of Weirton and Holly Miller of Johnsonville; three grandchildren, Morgan and Taylor Camden and Braylon Hendrick and two sisters, Geri (David) Wagner and Vicki (Joe) Vujonvich, both of Johnsonville.
Funeral services were held at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Burial followed at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell.

She was born January 19, 1943, a daughter of the late Victor and Mable Lucas.
She was a member of the Newell First Church of Christ.
Along with her parents, Sue was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Lucas Jr. and David Lucas; and two sisters, Patsy A. Brewer and Janet Watts.
Sue is survived by her three children, Vickie Conrad and her husband Steve of Marion, IN, a son Tommy Moore and his wife Jan of Chester, and Lisa Moore of Lisbon. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephen, Rachel and Hannah Conrad, Jessica and Christopher Orgavan, Sierra Dishler and Madison Sue Duval; and one great grandchild, Haley Dishler.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell with Minister Dennis Arnold officiating. Arrangements handled by the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell.

Charles “Dick” Rayburn, 87, of Newell, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011.
Born October 21, 1923 in Red Rose, WV, he was a son of the late Gordon and Fanny Howell Rayburn.
Dick was a World War II Navy Veteran, a 1941 graduate of Wells High School and retired form Globe Brick. He was a charter member of the Newell America Legion and a member of the Newell Volunteer Fire Department.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Ronnie, Barry and Jerry Rayburn; two brothers, Forrest and Dennis Rayburn; and a sister, Agatha Bekar.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Runion Rayburn of Newell; a son, Chuck Rayburn of California; three daughters, Carol (John) Burda of Beaver, Karen Birkheimer of California and Denise Aragon of Newell; eight grandchildren, Jason, Cara Camie, Mandy, Brittany, Courtney, Jeb and Justin; and two great grandchildren, Emily and Olivia.
Funeral services were held Mon., May 30, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell. Pastor Scott Henry officiated. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the West Virginia Burial Guard conducted military honors and a fireman’s service was conducted by the Newell Volunteer Fire Department.

Commander Robert Andrew “Gus” Kaminski, 39, of San Diego, California, died peacefully at his home on May 27, 2011 following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
He was born February 2, 1972 in Steubenville. A Weirton resident, he graduated from Brooke High School in 1990 and accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
After graduating from the Academy and being commissioned as an Ensign in May 1994, Gus reported directly to Basic Underwater Demolition /SEAL training. He graduated with Class 200 in August 1995.
His first assignment was with SEAL Team 3, where he completed three deployments to the Persion Gulf. He was a task-unit assistant, assistant platoon commander, and a platoon commander at ST-3.
Gus ‘ second assignment was at SEAL Team 5 as the operations officer. He was responsible for training and equipping eight SEAL platoons for overseas deployments and maintained six departments, ordnance, diving, training, communications, medical and administrative.
From June 2000-2004 Gus served as an Officer In Charge of the U.S. Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs. He Commanded a 12-member team and its mission of supporting recruiting goals for Naval Special Warfare.
Following his first Leap Frogs assignment, Gus completed a joint tour at Special Operations Command South in Homestead, Florida. He served at the U.S. Army Centric Command on a U.S. Air Force Reserve Base as on of three SEAL’s.
Gus returned to the Leap Frogs in June 2007 for a second tour as OIC. Gus’s awards include a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit and service awards.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Louis Fahrion of Wintersville, Mary Kaminski of Weriton, and Ben Kaminski and Stella Kaminski Metz of Chester.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Candice Trasatti Kaminski; his parents, Robert and Patricia Anne Kaminski of Weirton, and Alex P. and Jane Zucosky of Wintersville; his grandparents, Mrs. Ruth Fahrion of Wintersvillem and Mr. and Mrs. Alex J. Zucosky of Weirton; and his siblings, Kathleen (Kaminski) Buren of Lutherville, MD, Kelly (Zucosky) Seagraves of Atlanta, GA, and Michael Zucosky of Fort Collins, CO. In addition, he leaves six nieces and nephews, Mia and Ben Buren, Gavin, Tanner and Emerson Seagraves, and Alexander Zucosky.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Chapel of the Seas on the Naval Amphibious Base at Coronado, CA, on June 13, 2011, followed by a Memorial Service on the lawn of Special Warfare Command, Military Funeral Honors at Ft. Rosecrans Military Cemetery, overlooking San Diego Bay, and a SEAL Celebration of Life at Gator Beach on Naval Base Coronado.

Mrs. Henthorne was born in New Matamoras Nov. 14, 1883, a daughter of William Edwards and Bertilla Ward Edwards. She had resided in the East Liverpool area for 15 years and was a member of the St. Clair Ave. Church of Christ. She was married June 15, 1921.
She also is survived by two sons, Gary G. Henthorne of Lisbon and Lester Henthorne of East Liverpool, another daughter , Mrs. Amberry (Lois) Brown of East Liverpool, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Keith V. Vaughn, 45 of 248 Market St., a World War 11 veteran, died Sunday at 5:30 a.m. at the Oakland Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh, where he had been a patient 10 days. He had been ailing for two years.
A native of East Liverpool, Mr. Vaughn was born Aug. 17, 1927, a son of Harold F. Vaughn Sr. and Lucille Finlay Vaughn, who survive at home.
Mr. Vaughn had resided here his lifetime and had been a construction worker. He was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a construction union local in Steubenville.
Resides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Harold F. Vaughn, at home, and four nephews and nieces.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Mr. Bailey was born in New Cumberland Jan. 4, 1885, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Wolfe Bailey.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
The Rev. Allen S. Fields will conduct the Tuesday services. Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Watters, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Maloney and Edna, both of Pittsburgh,; a son, Robert Watters of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Robert Dunn Sr. of East Liverpool, and two granddaughters.

He died Friday at the Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he had been a patient since last June.
He was born at Mt. Vale, W. Va., Aug. 1, 1900. At one time he worked for Atty. W. H. Vodrey Jr.
He is survived by a nephew, Jonathan E. Carpenter of Pittsburgh, who was in charge of the funeral arrangements, other nephews and several nieces.
Burial was in the Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville.

Mr. Bromby, a retired city fireman, died Saturday at 11:55 p.m. at home after a long illness.
H e was born in East Orange, N. J., Sept. 11, 1906, a son of Agnes Collins Bromby Waterman of East Liverpool and Thomas Bromby. He had resided in East Liverpool most of his life, moving to Shaker Heights about six years ago.
Mr. Bromby was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and Elks Lodge 258 here.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his widow, Mrs. Marion Huston Bromby, at home; three daughters, Mrs. William (Roberta) Gierl of Neonah, Wis., Mrs. M. Eugene (Kaye) Carlisle Jr. of Cincinnati, and Mrs. Coline Bynum of Shaker Heights; a brother, Colin 9Slim) Bromby of Farmington, Mass., and six grandchildren.
The Rev. John Shaw will conduct the Tuesday services. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, New Manchester.

Services will be held Tuesday for Mrs. Florence Fox Howell, 76, of 823 Avondale St., who died Sunday at 6:15 in City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident, Mrs. Howell was born here Jan. 8, 1900, a daughter of James Fox and Louise Milleysack Fox. She retired in 1962 from the office of the then Ohio Valley Gas Co.
She had been active for years in the Business and Professional Women’s Club and was a member of the Past Matrons Group of Crystal Chapter 18, Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Howell was also a charter member of the Federated Women’s Club.
Her husband, Clarence Howell, died Sept. 24 1932.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Denver (Nancy) Wetzel of East Liverpool and a sister, Miss Edith Fox, at home.
The rites will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. William Parsons of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

SALINEVILLE – Mrs. Gertrude Mundy, 86, died Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Bea’s Rest Home, where she had resided five months. She had been in ill health for several years.
Born in England Feb. 7, 1865, a daughter of Joshua and Harriet Allen, she spent virtually all her life in Washingtonville and Salem. She was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Percy E. Mundy of Altoona, Pa., and Charles F. Mundy of Riverside, Calif.; three brothers, Thomas Allen of Cleveland, Edward Allen of Colorado Springs, Colo., and George Allen of Lisbon, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William died in1925 and a daughter, Mrs. ? Thompson died in 1950.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Arbuagh Pearce Funeral Home in Salem by Rev. R. J. Hunter of the Baptist church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Salem.

Floyd E. Davis, formerly of East Liverpool, died suddenly Sunday at 2:15 p.m. in his home on the Follensbee-Eldersville road near Follansbee. He would have been 38 Wednesday.
Davis was born in East Liverpool Dec. 5, 1913, a son of Ferrel Davis and the late Rena Reeche Davis. He moved from East Liverpool to Brooke County in 1937. He was employ7ed by the Weirton Steel Co. until 1947, when he became a toll collector for the West Virginia Road Commission on the Market St. Bridge in Steubenville.
Davis was married July 11, 1934 to the former Dorothy Mort. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Steubenville.
He leaves his widow, three sons, Robert Floyd Davis, Ronald Lee Davis, and James Ferrel Davis all at home; his father, in Dan Diego Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Wayne Faulk of Steubenville and Mrs. Henry Porter and Mrs. Clair Coleman of East Liverpool; two brothers, Harry Davis and James, Davis, and a half-brother, Earl Davis, also of East Liverpool.
The body was taken to James Funeral Home at 1245 Main St., Follansbee, where rites will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Arthur L. Albers of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Steubenville. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery in Brooke County. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Thomas H. Daugherty, father of Mrs. L. L. Hunter of Midland, died Sunday at 4: 55 a.m. in the Rochester General Hospital following an illness of 22 months. He was 86.
Mr. Daugherty, who resided in Weedville, Pa., before his illness, had made his home with Mrs. Hunter. He was a retired lumberman.
Others surviving are two sons, Thomas C. Daugherty of Wheaton, Ill., and Howard F. Daugherty of New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Gardner of Corry, Pa., and Mrs. Elizabeth McFarland of Youngstown, and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Dennis Funeral Home in Midland, by Rev. George H. Bohlender of the Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery.

He was born in Ritchie County, W. Va., Sept. 24,1884, a son of the late William Harris and Jane Plum Harris. At one time Mr. Harris was an oil field worker. He came to Negley from Akron about 13 years ago. He was a member of the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Rogers.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lou Etta Larch Harris at home: a son, Melvin L. Harris of East Liverpool; three sisters, Mrs. Delpha Perkins of Burgettstown, Mrs. Verna Monroe and Mrs. Clara Bailey, both of East Liverpool; four brothers, Salls Harris of Chester, Mack Harris and Tice Harris, both of Arp, Tex., and Julius Harris of East Liverpool; five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A native of Grandview, Ohio, Mrs. Justice was born Jan. 26, 1872, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Slack. She had resided in the vicinity 50 years. Her husband died Dec. 11, 1964.
She leaves two sons, Raymond Justice of Masontown, Pa., and Roy E. Justice of Ross Meadows: a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Edith) Cole of East Liverpool, 15 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great –grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes was born in Tyler County, W.Va., Aug. 28, 1891, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Solomon H. Barnes. He had resided here since 1929. He worked for the Crucible Steel Co. for 26 1/2 years before retirement. He was a member of Steelworkers Local 1212.

A native of Wheeling, Mr. Smith was born May 16, 1889, a son of the late James Smith and Mary Hartman Smith. He was a retired mixer in the paint shop of the Hancock Manufacturing Co., at Toronto. He was a member of the Toronto First Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eddie (Mary) Hinch of Toronto, a son, Donald V. Smith of Knoxville: a brother, Gordon Smith of Whittier, Calif.: a sister, Mrs. James Cox of Toronto., and one grandchild.

Mrs. Woods, a native of Liberty Center, Ohio, was born Jan. 23, 1877, a daughter of the late DR. Esrom Viers and Florence Stout Viers. She had lived in the area for 25 years, coming from Dallas, Ore. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Her husband died in 1859.
There are no survivors.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Warrick Funeral Home in Columbiana. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Middleton.

He was employed in the maintenance department of Quaker Casting Mfg. until retirement and was a member of the Lisbon First Christian Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife. Lena Mary Starr Flory.
He is survived by three sons, Cecil L. Flory Jr. of Fitchburg, Mass., Fred W. Flory of Beloit, Ohio and Ronald J. Flory of Wilson, N. C.; a daughter, Sally I Hasson of Bradenton, Fla., a brother, John Morgan of Lisbon; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

NEWELL – Jessie Lee Moore, 91, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.
She was born in Middlebourne, W.Va., Nov. 5, 1908, a daughter of the late James and Rosa Shinn Moore.
Her death marks the end of an era of service, caring and commitment to children. Jessie was a graduate of Tyler County High School and a graduate of West Liberty State College. She taught elementary school in California for 20 years, and in Hancock County 19 years. Teaching and children were her life.
Jessie will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. All will remember her kindness, caring, strength and patience. She was a public servant in its truest form- one who served children and their families in hopes of molding future lives.
She was a membe4r of the First Christian Church of Newell, California Teachers Association, the West Virginia Teachers Association, Hancock County Teachers Association and a life member of the National Teachers Association.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Moore, Carl Moore and Ira Moore; two sisters, Althea Moore and Ethel Moore; and a nephew, Sam Hissom Moore.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephew; very loving neighbors, Bill and Susan Walker and Mildred Cunningham as well as a multitude of loving friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, 614 Washington St., Newell, with Minister Tom Arehart officiating. Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born in East Liverpool, Sept. 8, 1956, a son of Charles Wayne Hutton and Helen Haynes Hutton of Chester.
He was employed as a pipefitter in the construction business. He graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1975, where he played football and was a member of the track relay team when it set a school record in 1974. He was a Methodist.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jody Hutton, at home; two sons, Charlie Hutton of Florida and Cody Hutton of Lenoir City; a daughter, Heather Hutton Keller of Newell; tow stepsons, Ty Johnson and Micah Johnson of Lenoir ?City; two brothers, Charles W. Hutton of Newell and Mark c. Hutton of Chester; three sisters, Emily Six of New Cumberland, Janet McIntosh of Marietta, Ohio, and Karin Cochran of East Liverpool; and three grandchildren.
The services will be held at the Click Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Oak Glen High School Alumni Association.

She is survived by a son, Robert Ludwig of Deer River, Minn.; two daughters, Jean Jewell of East Palestine and Ruth Crawford of Southern Pines, N.C.; two brothers, Louis Shinsky of Ellport, Pa., and Andrew Shinsky of Portersville, Pa.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Eleanor) Brown of Philadelphia, Mrs. William (Nancy) Ashbaugh of Cincinnati and Mrs. Dennis (Susan) Anthony of Memphis, Tenn., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He retired as an accountant for Bliss-Salem and attended the Lisbon First Christian Church. He also served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

WEIRTON – Michael John Mato, 82, died Tuesday, Oct 3, 2000, at Weirton Medical Center.
He was born in Toronto July 21, 1918, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Kridla Mato.
He retired as a high school teacher and principal of Wellsville High School and also as a chemist from the City of Weirton Sanitation Board. He graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a bachelor’s degree and from West Virginia University with a master’s degree of education. A veteran of the United States Army Air Force, he served during World War II.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a member of the church’s Holy Name Society. He was a past member of the St. Paul School Board. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 86, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2187 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Toronto. He was past commander of the Civil Air Patrol in Wellsville and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Pigan Mato, whom he married in Weirton, Feb. 11, 1950; two sons, Michael Gregory Mato and his wife, Jaci and Douglas Mato and his wife Marlene of Weirton; two sisters, Madge Olesky of Irondale and Irene Perlosky of Weirton; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Mato, Paul Mato, and two infant brothers; and three sisters, Mary Zinch, Ann Yasko and Elizabeth Blabac.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m.Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the church, 3500 Main St., Weirton. The Weirton VFW Post 2716 Firing Squad, Weirton American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard and the Tri-State Marine Corps. Club will accord military honors at the St. Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.

A lifetime area resident, he was employed at the former Lowers Coal Co., retiring in 1972 after 20 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He attended the Virginia Avenue Church of Christ in Chester.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Malcolm Edgar McBurney, 89, of Frederick Heights, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Weirton, W. Va., Feb. 19, 1912, and was the son of the late George and Mary (Rankin) McBurney.
Living his entire life in the area, Mr. McBurney was owner and operator of the former McBurney Pharmacy in East Liverpool for 45 years. He was a graduate of Weirton High School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where he was honored with a 50- year pin and also was associated with the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a life member of Elks lodge No. 258 in East Liverpool and the Al Koran Temple in Cleveland, Ohio. He also was a member of the Tri State Casting Club, Masonic Lodges No9. 315, No. 55, No. 95 and No. 100, East Liverpool Shrine Club, East Liverpool Association of Ancient and Accepter Rite Masons, Ancient Accepter Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville Censistory, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and the East Liverpool Association of Ancient and Accepted Masons.
Mr. McBurney was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific on Admiral Kincades 7th fleet as a lieutenant. He attended Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Coleman) McBurney, whom he married July 25, 1941; two nieces, Jana (Franklin) Crawford and her husband Ray of Stow, Ohio, and Marsha (Franklin) Fisher and her husband Bob of Strongsville; a nephew, Lee McBurney and his wife Nancy of Weirton; and eight great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert McBurney and Don McBurney.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Cahpel of the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Friday, July 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Maly of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

She is survived by her husband, David A. Link of New Cumberland; three sons, David J. Rains of Lake Havasu City and Eric D. Link and Joshua D. Link of New Cumberland; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Lawson.

He was born in East Liverpool Nov. 6, 1915, the son of the last John “Jack” and Ruth Haudenscheldt Bowers.
He worked at the Hall China Company and the former Edwin M. Knowles Pottery. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by a daughter, Judith Ann Maloni of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a son, John Michael Bowers of East Liverpool; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by grandparents who raised him, Mr. and Mrs. George (Clara) Haudensheldt.
The Rev. William Church of the Calvary United Methodist Church will conduct services at noon Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home a half-hour prior to the service.

Born on Oct. 3, 1917, at Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late William R. and Mary Ann Delaney Hodgson. She retired freom Anchor Hocking and was s member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John O'Brien. Her Husband, Harry "Mac" McHenry survives at home along with one granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by one son, Dr. John O'Brien.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Delmas A. “Tut” Sanford, 83, an East Liverpool native and a lifelong resident of the Dixonville area of his hometown, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011, at his home on Park Boulevard East.
Born June 10, 1927, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Louis and Eunice Sanford.
After graduation from East Liverpool High School in 1945, he immediately was drafted into the United States Army to fight for his country during World War II, where he served with the occupational forces in Japan. During his time in the service, he joined the Christian Military Group known as the GI Gospel Band which rebuilt churches and homes that had been bombed in the war.
Upon completion of his military service, he returned to East Liverpool and married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean Goodman on Sept. 23, 1947, and they began building their own family.
Besides being survived at home by his wife “Dorie” he also leaves three daughters, JoDell Simons of Hummelstown, Pa., Renee Willoughby and her husband, David of Silver Spring, Md., and Jelayne Dray and her husband, Dan of East Liverpool.
He is also survived by one granddaughter, Heather Peters and her husband, Joey of Laurel, Md.; five grandsons, David “Branson” Willoughby of Silver Spring, Kevin “Christopher” Sanford of Kettering, Ohio, Daniel Andrew “Drew” Dray of East Liverpool, Tyler Simons of Hummelstown, and Brock Dray of East Liverpool; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Faith Peters of Laurel; and one daughter-in-law, Christie Sanford of East Liverpool.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Craig Sanford and Kevin Alan Sanford; two sisters, Elaine Lovier and Marjorie Stover; and six brothers, Luke Sanford, Ralph Sanford, Vernon Sanford, Richard Sanford, Kenneth Sanford and Willard Sanford.
Delmas Sanford owned and operated the Sanford & Son Plumbing Company in East End for 53 years. For many of those years, his son Kevin, who passed away in 1998, worked as his partner in the business. An active membe4r of his hometown community, he was one of the founders of the East Liverpool Community Rescue Mission. He served as a president of the East Liverpool Area Chamber of Commerce and was a chairman of he East Liverpool Businessmen’s Association. A trustee of the East Liverpool City Hospital Board, he was also a director of the former First Federal Savings & Loan. For many years he was elected and served on the East Liverpool City School Board and he was a member of the Ohio School Board Association’s All-Regional Board. A former member of the Columbiana County Health Board, he also served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board. Along with his son Kevin, he co-chaired the telemarketing fund raising committee for the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association’s Clock Tower Rebuilding Fund.
A member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool, he serves as a trustee, and also was s Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, held a local minister’s license, coached the local boys youth basketball team, and enjoyed playing on the church’s Men’s Softball Team. He served as a member of the Eastern Ohio District Church of the Nazarene Advisory Board and the Gideon Bible Society. For many years he had been an active participant of the annual Community Prayer Breakfast Committee. For all of his efforts, he was the 1964 recipient of the Jaycee’s Civic Service Award and in 1985 he received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award. In 1986, he was named a Morning Journal Citizen of the Year. In 2003, he was inducted into the Lou Holtz Ohio Valley Hall of Fame.
His Christian beliefs have led him to make 19 mission trips all over the world, where he has worked tirelessly in the construction of churches, schools, and medical stations. On each of those trips, his group distributed bibles and scripture in native languages with 250,000 having been distributed in Russia alone. In 2002, he and his wife, “Dorie”, and 18 other men traveled to the Amazon Region in the jungles of Peru to build a church in honor and memory of their son, Kevin.
Friends may visit the family from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool, Pastor Merrill Williams of the church will conduct a service to celebrate Mr. Sanford’s live at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Lifetime area resident Wanda Jean Huston Unrue, 80, of Huston Place, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 11:43 p.m. at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Raymond L. and Florence E Cain Huston, Wanda was born in East Liverpool on July 23, 1930. She was the last remaining member of the Huston family of Calcutta, and had lived in Huston Road neighborhood for over 55 year, where she and her husband, Claire, raised their family and enjoyed sharing their home with legions of young people and their friends.
She was a 1948 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and in her later years enjoyed membership in the ELHS Alumni Association and its Olde Guard. A lifelong member of the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church, she began playing the organ and piano for services when she was just a teenager, and continued to play throughout her life, playing as recently as this year, in spite of her illness.
The foundation of her life was her church and her faith. For many years, she taught Bible school, Sunday school and even kindergarten classes at the church before they were taught in the public schools, as well as hosting weekly after school Bible clubs in her home.
Wanda will be remembered by the many students to whom she patiently and lovingly taught to play the piano, having had over 300 students over the years. She also enjoyed working outside in the garden, growing flowers or tending to the yard. A wonderful cook, she enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.
Surviving her at home is her loyal and devoted husband, M. Claire Unrue, whom she married on her birthday in 1952. It would be said by all who knew them that it was rare to see one without the other.
Also surviving are three sons, the Rev. Mark Unrue and his wife, Cindy, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, Stan Unrue of Melbourne, Fla., and Rick Unrue and his wife, Debbie, of Titusville, Fla.
There are eight grandchildren: Jenna and Katlin Unrue: Denise, Tim and Zak Unrue; Amy Unrue Botkin, Stanley Unrue Blackwell and Ashley Unrue. There are also four great-grandchildren.
In addition, a sister, Marian Houser of Woodbridge, VA., survives.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home Sunday afternoon and evening where the family will be present from noon to 3 and 6 -8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Calcutta Presbyterian Church.

NEW CUMBERLAND – Harry O. Carson, 54, farmer and retired oil and gas driller, died at his home in Carson Oil fields near here, Wednesday night following a heart attack. He had been ill for several months.
Mr. Carson was born in Hancock county and spent his life in this section. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Wilson Carson, and five children, Ethelberta, Iris, James, Robert and John, all at home; also one brother Frank of the Carson Oil field and one sister, Mrs. Harland Ramsey of Hookstown.
Funeral services will be held in the home Saturday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Samuel Spencer, pastor of the Point Pleasant Methodist Protestant church. Burial will be made in Mill Creek Cemetery.

LISBON, Feb. 10 – Miss Ada Benner died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at her home on the Salineville Road about a mile south of here. She was 86, and had been in ill health for some time.
Born in Franklin township in January, 1861, she was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Ewing Benner. She spent her entire life in this vicinity. She was a member of the New Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in Wayne township.
The only survivors are several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. form the Eells Funeral Home by Rev. T. R. Atkin, pastor of the New Lebanon Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

J. M. Huston, formerly pastor of the First M. E. church in this city. The funeral services were held from the home of Dr. Huston in Wellsville, at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Interment was made in the Wellsville cemetery.
