Bernice Patricia Szymanek, 87, of New Cumberland passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at Valley Hospice Trinity East; Steubenville.
She was born October 23, 1923 in New Cumberland, a daughter of the late Andrew and Wanda Nocula radeski. She is also preceded in death by her husband, whom she married May 17, 1945, Mike Szymanek; a son Michael Szymanek; five sisters, Mary Merenda, Josephine Radeski, Wanda Briggs, Stellsa Straka & Carolyn Spencer; 2 brothers, Stanley & Edward Radeski.
Bernice had various jobs, but is most remembered for serving ice cream at Buck’s Home-made Ice Cream in New Cumberland. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Cumberland.
Surviving are : a son, James (Diana) Szymanek, a daughter Susan (Milan) Coxen, all of New Cumberland; a sister, Jan Cronin of Hudson, OH; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Jenn)
Szymanek of Lowell, NC, Elaine Szymanek of New Cumberland, Megan Coxen of Pittsburtgh and Aaron Coxen of New Cumberland; a great-grandson, Chase Szymanek of Lowell, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Eric Antwi and Fr. Ronald Getsinger ass Celebrants. Interment followed in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P. O. Box 666, New Cumberland, WV 26047 or Valley Hospice, 380 Summitt Avenue, Steubenville, OH 43952.
Turley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
