EAST LIVERPOOL – James Moffat Walker, 84, of Broadview Circle died at his residence at 9:32 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Walker was born in East Liverpool June 13, 1917, son of he late Harry and Helen Moffat Walker.
He spent his lifetime in East Liverpool where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Administrative Board.
As a former president of the Woodbine Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co. for many years, Mr. Walker also worked for 8 years in the purchasing department of the anchor Hocking Co.
A veteran of World War II in the U. S. Army, Mr. Walker was stationed in the Philippines and in Puerto Rico having served for five years. Mr. Walker was a retired major in the Army Reserves serving as an assistant division supply officer and was an organizing officer of Company A, 778 Tank Co, in East Liverpool. Medals received by Mr. Walker include the American Theater Medal, the American Defense Medal, The World War II Medal, the Asiatic and Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
Mr. Walker was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1935 and was co-chairman of his class reunion committee. Having been a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and its Tower Club he also was a member of the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge #315, the East Liverpool Jaycees of which he was a charter founder, the /E. L. Chamber of Commerce and the E. L. Chapter of the American Red Cross of which he had served as chairman. As a long standing member of the E. L. Kiwanis club, Mr. Walker also had served as a past president. Through his past involvement in the East Liverpool Historical Society, Mr. Walker had been a trustee of that organization. Mr. Walker also was a loyal member of the Blue & /white Touchdown Club.
He was preceded in death on Nov. 15, 1997, by his wife Roberta L. Chambers Walker, whom he married Oct. 13, 1942.
He is survived by one daughter, Dr. Nancy L. Walkerof Brewster, Mass., and one son, Dr. Robert J. Walker and his wife Karen of East Liverpool. Mr. Walker has two grandsons, Mr. Dana Johngren and his wife Rachel of Brewster, Mass, and aMrs. Josh Walker of East Liverpool.
Mr. Walker also was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Walker Arnold.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 at the Dawson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Maly of the church officiating
Friends may call from 1:30 to 4 pm. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
