Bernadette Dugas Watson, 73, of New Cumberland went home to heaven on Sunday, March 15, 2009 with her loving family at her side.
Bernie was born February 13, 1936 in Slovan, Pa, a daughter of the Steve and mary (Hvizdos) Dugas. Bernie was the twelfth of fifteen children. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Beharry, Pauline Michalski and Elizabeth Dugas; and brothers, Albert, Bill and Edward Dugas.
She was the wife, best friend and lover to her husband, Arthur “Jack” Watson, who survives. Bernie and Jack celebrated their fifty-first anniversary on May 11, 2008. She was the proud mother of four children, including two daughters, Connie (Rick) Shreve and Teresa Watson, both of New Cumberland; and two sons, Arthur (Loretta) Watson of New Cumberland and Michael (Deneen) Watson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Joseph and Adam Strapazzon, both of Weirton; Amanda Watson of New Cumberland, Timothy Shreve of New Cumberland, and Emily and Brock Watson of Cuyahoga Falls; two great-grandchildren Marlee and Maisy Richmond-Strapazzon of Weirton; three sisters, Theresa Dugas, Martha Resnik and Francis Gilbert; five brothers, George, Tony, Steve, Lou and Martin Dugas and several nieces and nephews.
Bernie was a member of the New Cumberland Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir and the Catholic Woman’s Club, which she so enjoyed. She was a member of the Ladies auxiliary of Slovan.
A Mass and Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Getsinger as celebrant. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery. Turley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Woman’s Club and/or Valley Hospice in Bernadette’s name.
