NEWELL – Jessie Lee Moore, 91, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.
She was born in Middlebourne, W.Va., Nov. 5, 1908, a daughter of the late James and Rosa Shinn Moore.
Her death marks the end of an era of service, caring and commitment to children. Jessie was a graduate of Tyler County High School and a graduate of West Liberty State College. She taught elementary school in California for 20 years, and in Hancock County 19 years. Teaching and children were her life.
Jessie will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. All will remember her kindness, caring, strength and patience. She was a public servant in its truest form- one who served children and their families in hopes of molding future lives.
She was a membe4r of the First Christian Church of Newell, California Teachers Association, the West Virginia Teachers Association, Hancock County Teachers Association and a life member of the National Teachers Association.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Moore, Carl Moore and Ira Moore; two sisters, Althea Moore and Ethel Moore; and a nephew, Sam Hissom Moore.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephew; very loving neighbors, Bill and Susan Walker and Mildred Cunningham as well as a multitude of loving friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home, 614 Washington St., Newell, with Minister Tom Arehart officiating. Burial will be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
