EAST PALESTINE – Ruth H. Smith, 86, of East Main Street, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Inman Boarding Home following a brief illness.
She was born in East Palestine Feb. 26, 1915, a daughter of the late George and Amanda Edwards Barnhouse.
She was employed as a receptionist with Dr. Jack Carpenter until retiring. She served with the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Hollenbaugh,
Kathryn Duncan and Virginia Gernert of East Palestine; a son, Robert T. Smith of Columbiana; a sister, Peggy Stewart of Cordova, Ala; several grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The Rev. Ronald Spore will conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4579 and American Legion Post 31.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.
