Beaver, Formerly of Brighton Township

Daniel C. Baker, Jr., P.E., 82 of Beaver, formerly of Brighton Township, died February 12, 2011, in New Brighton, he was a son of the late Daniel C. Sr. and Henrietta (Hoover) Baker. A Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor, he was chairman of the family –owned firm of Daniel C. Baker Associates, Inc., having served numerous municipalities and industrial companies as a civil engineer and surveyor.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, he was an ordained elder of the Presbyterian church, was a member of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation, and had served as president of the Blockhouse Baker Association, an association of descendants of the earliest settlers in Beaver County.
In 1990, he was named Engineer of the Year by the Beaver County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. In 1993, he received the Founders Award from the Southwest Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, in 2003, he received a proclamation from the Brighton Township Board of Supervisors for his professional contributions over 43 years, and in 2004 he received the Lifetime Membership Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Sewage Enforcement Officers. In 2006, a scholarship in his name was awarded to incoming freshmen engineering students in Penn State University’s Beaver Campus and he received a commendation for his achievements from the State Senate of Pennsylvania.
He loved farming and horses, having organized and participated in numerous horse shows and clubs. He enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing, and was an avid Penn State fan, having attended many football games with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Martha McMullen Baker, whom he married on October 22, 1948; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kathie Baker, South Beaver Township; two daughters, and sons-in-law, Christine and Dana Varney, Beaver, and Connie and Chad Weimer, Harleysville, PA; six cherished grandchildren, Lisa Baker King and Kevin King, Idaho Falls, ID, Dalene Varney LaPointe and Christopher LaPointe, South Hamilton, MA, Carla Baker Rebernak and Jeff Rebernak, Sugar City, Id, Clint Baker, Idaho Falls, ID, Clay Varney, Washington, D.C, and Reed Weimer, Harleysville, PA; two great-grandsons, Alden LaPointe, South Hamilton, MA and Garrett Rebernak, Sugar City, ID; two brothers, Robert Baker and Edwin Baker, and a sister, Maryetta Shiring.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were a grandson, Jacob Baker Weimer, and a great grandson, Baker Christian LaPointe.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Noll Funeral Home, Inc, 333 Third St., Beaver.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, by his pastor, Reverend Jeffrey A. Arnold.
Private entombment will take place at the Sylvania Hills Mausoleum.
