Died Dec. 23, 2003

NEW CUMBERLAND – Gwendolyn Jane “Gwen” Jones, 72, of Third Ave. passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at her residence.
She was born May 11, 1931, in New Cumberland, a daughter, of the late Kenneth and Anna May Gibson Wern. She was also preceded in death by her husband John Paul Jones Sr.; one sister Shirley Wern and a grandson.
Gwen was a lifetime member of the new Cumberland First Presbyterian Church, where she was choir director and very active in the church for years.
She also was a member of the New Cumberland Womans Club, GFWC Past President and member; Brickyard Bend Festival Queen and a present Council member and former Mayor of the City of New Cumberland and a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, John Paul Jones Fr. And his wife, Barb of New Cumberland; three daughters, Paula Mieczkowski of New Cumberland, Rhonda Chivers and her husband, Chuck of Wellsburg, W.Va., and Sheila Robinson of New Cumberland; a brother, Robert M. Wern and his wife Liz of Bryantown, Md.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a niece, Kara Higdon and her husband, Trey of Waldorf, Md.’; and a nephew, Kenneth Wern of Bryantown, Md.
Friends will be received at the Turley Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the New Cumberland Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating, where burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the church.

MINERVA – Dolores A. McGeorge, 78, of Minerva, died Saturday, November 15, 2003, in Aultman Hospital following a short illness.
Born October 17, 1924, in McKees Rocks, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward and M. Isaphine (Forbes) Hershberger.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3124, Massillon, and a member of the First Christian Church of Minerva. She had many fond memories of the staff and nurses at Rose Lane Health Center who cared for her the last few years.
She is survived by daughter Mrs. Michael (Laura) Berg of Minerva, son M.E. “Butch” (Patricia) McGeorge of Columbus, daughter Mrs. Howard (Patricia) Heitger of Canal Fulton, son Robert K. (Patricia) McGeorge of Minerva; brother, Raymond (Doris) Hershberger of Falls Church, Va. She was loved by her seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Burl McGeorge who died in 1985, a son Burl Jr., four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in The Bartley Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Fedorka officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Laurens Cemetery in Bolivar.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Donald Lee Nixon, of Lang Street, died on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at the Calcutta Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old.
He had worked for more than 35 years at McClain Firebrick in Wellsville as a foreman and more recently at Specialty Ceramics in Columbiana for the past five years.
He was born in Marion, Ohio, on June 18, 1928, to Jeannette E. and Alfred R. Nixon, both of whom preceded him in death. His wife, Phyllis I. Searafy Nixon, passed away in 2000.
He is survived by three children, Kathy R. and her husband Richard F. Wilk Jr. of Lisbon, David B. Nixon of New York, Palm Beach and Beverly Hills and Diane E. and her husband James Householder of Lisbon; six grandchildren, Christian C. and husband, Steven Le. Richard F. Wilk III and wife Teresa, all of Leetonia, Jamie and Marci Miller and Clinton and Trevor Householder, all of Lisbon; three great-grandchildren, Randalyn Wilk of Lisbon and Cheyenne and Savannah Wilk of Leetonia; a sister, Marian E. Nixon of Wellsville; and a brother, Keith E. Nixon and wife Alma Jean of Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charities that benefit multiple sclerosis and Leukemia/lymphoma.

WEIRTON – Aiyana Luevano, 3, surrounded by her family and friends, passed away comfortably Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at her home, after a one week relapse with Leukemia.
Aiyana was born to Jim and Jennifer Dowdy Luevano in Weirton on Oct. 25, 2000.
She enjoyed playing with her big brother, swinging on her swing set and playing with her doll babies.
In addition to her parents, Jim and Jennifer, Aiyana is survived by her brother, Chayton Luevano at home; maternal grandparents, Jim and Kay Dowdy of New Manchester; her paternal grandparents, James and Lily Ann Luevano of New Cumberland; her paternal great-grandmother, Alma Booth of Gardendale, Ohio; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday.
Rev. Bob Gracey will preside.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Hannah Varian and two brothers, Dylan and Matthew Varian, all at home.
Mae Varian, his paternal grandmother, also survives.
Emmett Varian , his paternal grandfather, preceded him in death along with his maternal grandparents, Milton and Dorothy Reese.

MIDLAND – Evelyn Liberatore D’Angelo, 83, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 6, 2003, at Serenity Personal Care Home following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Midland, a daughter of the late John and Maria Liberatore, she had been a resident of Midland all her life and was a member of the St. Blaise Parish Family, Midland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D.Angelo, in 2000; her son, John D’Angelo, in 2003, and a brother, Victor Liberatore.
Surviving are a son, Jay D’Angelo of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret D’Angelo of Vacaville, Calif.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Julie D’Angelo of Santa Clara, Calif., Jason and Ann D’Angelo of Shelton, Conn., and Michelle D’Angelo of Vacaville; two great-grandchildren, Brendan D’Angelo of Santa Clara and Orie D”Angelo of Shelton; a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Jean Liberatore of Midland; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Antonelli of Midland, Elviara and Peter Liveratore of Bridgeville, Pa., and Emily and Louis Yanni of East Liverpool.

Carl E. Cline, 77, of East Liverpool passed away Monday, March 29, 2004
He was born April 1, 1926 in Chester, a son of the late Wilbur J. and Mary Seevers Cline. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Cline and a daughter, Carol Cline.
He was a World War II Army veteran. He was retired as a crane operator with Patterson Industry. He was a member of the East Liverpool American Legion Post 374 and a Protestant by faith.
He is survived by eight daughters, Darlene Jones an Janet H. Dennis of East Liverpool, Norva Carlson, Lucindy Tabor, Edith Tyler and Wanda Fuqua, all of Idaho, Eva Ruth Hughes of Washington State and Evelyn Ramages of Florida; a sister, Shirley Moore of Oregon; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. a the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Rev. Howard McConkey officiating. Interment followed at the Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens of Newell were the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group accorded military services.

He was born January 3, 1931 in Toronto, OH, the son of the late Henry and Garnett Duke Mesler. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Miller and a brother, Jack Mesler.
He was a retired machine shop foreman with Starvaggi’s Industries and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Cumberland.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Daplun Mesler, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Bonnie) Juszczak and Kathy Kontra, both of RD #2 New Cumberland; a son, Thomas Mesler and wife, Cynthia of Weirton; two brothers, Jim Mesler of Georgia and Curt Mesler of East Liverpool; two sisters, Marilyn Gooch of Toronto and Carol Gerkins of Monroeville; six grandchildren, Jason and Julie Juszczak, Jennifer Brinkley, Melissa, Amanda and Jonathan Mesler and two great-grandchildren Tyler and Zachary.
A mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Ronald Getsinger officiating. He was born December 12, 1952 in East Liverpool, the son of Mary Allison Robinson Simonetti of Newell and he late Wayne Robinson.
He spent most of his life in the Pompano Beach, Florida area, working for the Winn Dixie Corporation. He moved home approximately five years ago and was presently working for Pipelines of East Liverpool. He was a Protestant by faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Frank Simonetti of Newell; a sister, Mrs. Mike (Connie) Stine of Moundsville; two nieces, amber and Heather Stine and two great nephews, Tanner and Reily.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 5, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home. Interment followed at the Locust Hill cemetery of Chester.

Donald Ray Barnhart, Sr., 73, of RD #3, New Cumberland passed away Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the home of his daughter with his family by his side.
He was born April 9, 1930 in St. Marys, the son of the Robert and Rebecca Stewart Barnhart. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Franklin, Charles, Arthur, Dallas and William Barnhart and three sisters, Laverna Mae Barnhart, Eileen Hawken and Nellie Beaver.
He was retired from Crescent Brick Company where he was a maintenance leader with 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the occupation of Japan. He was a lifetime member of the FVW Post # 3526 and a member of the New Cumberland Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Dawson Barnhart, at home, two daughters, Judy (Charles) Delaney of New Cumberland and Rebeca (George) Decanio of Rogers, OH; two sons, Donald (Elizabeth) Barnhart, Jr. of Steubenville and Terry Barnhart of St. Marys; three sisters, Margaret (James) Gregory of Sistersville, Marylou (Herbert) Rice of Friendly, WV and Shirley (Leonard) Glover of Char-don, Oh; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles Thomas officiating. Military graveside services followed in the New Cumberland Cemetery.

She was born May 2, 197 in Cannonsburg, PA, a daughter of the late Thomas and Pearl Wycoff Moss. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John C. Melott and her Second husband, William Richards; two sons, John R. and Herb Melott; a daughter, Linda Melice; a sister, Edith Armstrong and four brothers, James Roy, Bob and Albert Moss.
She was retired after working 23 ½ years a s nurses aide and a member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by four sons, Ronald Melott, William Melott and Roger Richards, all of East Liverpool and Robert Melott of Missouri; two daughters, Georgia Gardner of East Liverpool and Shelby John of Chester; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment was held at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens of Newell. The Nixon Funeral Home of Newell was in charge of arrangements.

John M. Myers, 83, of Weirton passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004.
He was born October 29, 1920 in Irondale, OH, the son of the late Solomon and Daisy Tice Myers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Rudder Myers; a brother, Gene Myers and two sisters, Wilma Simmon and Janet Beaver.
He retired from Weirton Steel after working 32 years as a foreman with the labor gang in the Coke Plant. He also worked 16 years with the Louis Berkman Industry. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club.
He is survived by a son, John Myers, and wife, Shirley of Colliers; a daughter, Mrs. Jess (Shirley) Reed of New Cumberland; four grandchildren Steve Myers and wife, Renee, Scott L. Reed, Todd A. Reed and Angela M. Myers; several nieces and nephews and his beloved pet, Brownie.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Rev. James Reed and Rev. Larry Jackson officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery.

She was born August 13, 1931 in Orangefield, TX, the daughter of the late Albert ad Antille Monso Sonier. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ella Pittman; three brothers, LeRoy, Clifton and AB Sonier.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Newell TOPS and AFMC, Gas Valley Road. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Cheuvront, at home; three sons, Fred Michael Cheuvront and Bruce Wayne Cheuvront, both of Chester and LeRoy Thomas Cheuvront of New Cumberland; three daughters, Mrs. Judy Carol (Dave) Dunlap and Mrs. Evon (Bob) Patterson, both of Chester and Mrs. Sharon Mariam of Newell; two brothers, Albert Sonierr Jr., of Houston, TX and Tommy Sonier of Orange, TX; a sister, Hazel Weatherford of Houston; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 30, 2004 at the Arner Funeral Chapel with Father Rodger Hughes officiating. Interment followed at the Shadow Lawn Memory Garden in Newell.

She was born January 20, 1924 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Harley and Rebecca Rust Harper. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Brown; her second husband, John Lemley; a brother, Charles Harper; three sisters, Charlotte Cook, Norma Brown and Phyllis Rollins and three grandchildren, Charles Cox, George Thomas Cox, and Sherrie R. J. Bailey.
She was a retired janitor, working at the Hancock County Court House.
She is survived by three sons, George “Mike” Brown of New Cumberland, John Mack Brown of Weirton and Richard E. Brown of Ohio; a daughter, Linda Bailey of New Cumberland; a sister, Dorcus Roma of Tacoma WA; a brother, Bill Harper of Ashland, OH; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Krebs officiating. Interment followed at the Three Springs Cemetery in Weirton.

John C. Abrams, 81, of Indiana Ave., Chester passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2004 at the East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1922 in Georgetown PA, a son of he late Robert B. and Pearl E. Allison Abrams. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; two sisters, Leona and Unice Abrams and a brother, Thomas Abrams.
Mr. Abrams retired from the former National Steel in Weirton where he was a chemical engineer. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester where he served as an elder and on the Board of Trustees. He was a longtime member of the Chester Lions Club and a member of the National Steel 25 Year Club.
He is survived by two sons, Jay Abrams of Oklahoma City, OK and Huey Abrams of Chester, a daughter, Christina Snyder, her husband, Larry and daughter, Jessica, of Chester; a brother, Robert Abrams of Richland, WA; two sisters, Alberta Abrams of Chester and Mrs. Shirley Smith , her husband, Dennis of Cincinnati and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Trina Lewis officiating. The Arner Funeral Chapel assisted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Memorial Fund at the church.

SALINEVILLE – Clyde “Chip” N. Earich, Jr., 95, of Haiti Road, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1908, in Salineville, the son of the late Clyde N. and Sarah (Bucheit) Earich Sr. He worked as an engineer for Penn Central Railroad for 30 years before retiring in 1973.
Chip was a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1040, the oldest living member of the Lisbon Eagles, and a social member of the Salineville American Legion.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane Ann Simpson and her husband Richard of Columbiana, Ohio, Nancy Sprouse and her husband Lawrence Sprouse Jr. of Columbiana; three sons, Gary Earich and his wife Anna of Salineville, Thomas Earich and his wife Carol of Salineville and John Earich and his wife Chanda of Phoenix, Ariz; 31 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Teresa, whom he married Feb. 24, 1934, died Dec. 4, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a son, Glenn Earich; a sister; a half brother; and half sister.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Maly of the First United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Highlandtown Cemetery.

COLUMBIANA – Mildred L. Detchon, 85, a resident at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Salem Community Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Hammondsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late John And Blanche (Robb) Tice. Mildred retired after 12 years working as a cleaning matron for the Salem City School District.
She has memberships in the Salem and Lisbon Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Ohio Public School Employees and enjoyed playing bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband, John William Detchon on Feb. 24, 1991. They were married on Aug. 26, 1950. five brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
Survivors include one daughter, Alberta Nicotera and her husband, Angelo, of Leetonia; four sons, Gene Leffler of Indianapolis, Ind., Chuck Leffler and his wife Sandy of Kentland, Ind., Frank Detchon and his wife Becky of Leetonia and Douglas Detchon and his wife Gayle of Salem; two sisters, Violet Weaver of Chester and Dolly Thomas of East Liverpool; one brother, Sonny Tice of California; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home, Wellsville, with the Rev. Vickie Yoder of the Leetonia Mennonite Church presiding. Burial will follow in Hammondsville Cemetery.

SALEM – Ronald L. Barnett Sr., 71, of Pennsylvania, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Holander House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a three-year illness.
He was born May 14, 1932, in Saxton, Bedford County, Pa., to the late William and Helen (Thompson) Barnett.
He retired from U.S,. Airways in Pittsburgh in 1987. he was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by daughters, Rebecca L. Conger of Atlanta, Ga., and Madonna L. Johnson of Raleigh, N. C.; a son, Ronald L. Barnett Jr., of Salem; two sisters and two grandchildren.
Private services will be Wednesday at Arbaugh Pearce Greenisen Funeral Home in Salem. Burial at Ohio Western reserve national Cemetery in Pittman, Ohio, will full military honors from the U.S. Army.

SALEM – Eugene Anthony Steitz, 80, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Salem Community Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Gavers, Ohio, June 18, 1923, a son of the late Henry E. and Rachel Coppinger Steitz. He owned and operated “The Ranch” tavern in Unity and served with the U. S. Army Airforce during World War II.

He was employed at Sterling China in Wellsville and Served with the U.S. Army in Korea.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Morris and Tom Morris of Costa Mesa, Calif.; two daughters, Carol Morris of Alpharetta, G. and Jan Everett of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Gary Lee Morris of Portland, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Nov. 27, 2003, at Newport Beach, Calif.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ada “Irene” Wain, 86, of Lisbon Street, died at 11 am. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at the Robert E. Boyce Pavilion of East Liverpool City Hospital, where hs had been a patient for one week.
Born in East Liverpool Dec. 31, 1916, daughter of the late Herbert H. and Cora Vada Argabriter Pickering, she was a lifelong member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, which merged and now is the Good Shepherd Church. She had been a member of the Altar Society when at Calvary.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was employed at National Church Envelope, as well as the former Edwin M. Knowles Pottery and other area potteries.
She had been a member of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem of Wellsville.
James Duffy, her first husband, died in 1963. She later married Percy Wain, who died in 1987. Two brothers, Herbert and Kenneth Pickering, also preceded her in death along with a sister, Betty J. Gotschall.
A brother, James “Jim” Pickering of East Liverpool, survives along with several nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call Monday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home, where the family will be present form 7 to 9 p.m.
The Rev. William Church of Good Shepherd will conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

SALINEVILLE – Lillian “Mae” Reed, 82, of McCormack run, Salineville, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salina, Pa., Oct. 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Isabella Robinson McHenry. She had spent most of her lifetime in this area, where she had formerly lived on Melbourne Avenue. She and her husband, Harry, owned and operated HM Beagle Dry Cleaners, and she was later employed by One Hour Cleaners.
A member of Southern Hills Church of Christ on Route 39, Mrs. Reed was a member of Etruria Street Church of God in East Liverpool.

She is survived by one son, Raymond K. Springer and his wife Betty of Highlandtown, as well as a brother, George Frank McHenry of Calcutta, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Shermenti, and two brothers, James McHenry and William Kenneth McHenry.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Daniel Christopher Aldrich, 19, of Park Boulevard died at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 1999, near Ada, Ohio, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He ws born in East Liverpool Sept. 12, 1980, a son of Jeffrey W. and Dr, Jean Pomeroy Aldrich of East Liverpool.
He was a graduate of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1999. he was starting tackle of the 1998 ELHS Football playoff team. He was a member of the ELHS Varsity Club and was a member of the 1999 ELHS College Bowl championship team. He was to major in biology at Ohio Northern University in Ada with the intention of going on to study veterinarian medicine. He had received an academic scholarship from Ohio Northern and the Ohio Proficiency Scholarship.
Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Jeffrey W. Aldrich Jr., a student at William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Va., and Matthew J. Aldrich, a student at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; a sister, Ann Kathleen “Katie” Aldrich of Columbus; and his paternal grandparents, F. William and Mabel Aldrich of Pinehurst, N. C.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the ELHS Fieldhouse. Burial will be in Ri

EAST LIVERPOOL – Matthew Salsberry, 18, of Wooster Avenue, died at Approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 1999, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Ada.
He was born in East Liverpool Nov. 16, 1980, a son of Sandra Setliff Salsberry of East Liverpool
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1999. He was enrolled to attend Ohio Northern University in Ada this fall. He attended Campground Community Church. He was a three0year letterman in football.
A 32-game satter in football, he earned first team all-district honors for three years and honorable mention All-Ohio for three years. During his senior year, he was elected captain of the football team, was named to first-team All-OVAC, All-Quad County and first team All-County. He was to Paly in the Penn-Ohio and OVAC All-Star Game this summer. He was recently honored by the Northeastern Ohio Coaches Association as one of 20 players honored for their athletic and academic achievement. He was a four-year letterman in wrestling. He was a two-time Ohio Valley Athletic Conference wrestling champion placing fourth in Ohio in 1999. He was a four-year letterman in track, and he was the River Valley League Champion in the Discuss this year. He was a member of the National Honor Society and vice President to the senior class.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his grandparents, Donald and Audrey Setliff Sr. of East Liverpool; and his great-grandmother, Ruth Cannon of Ireland, W.Va

She is survived by a son, Richard Kuhn of Toronto; two daughters, Louise Petrozzi of St. Clairsville and Phyllis Zeigler of Toronto; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Earl ‘Blackie’ Lundy, 69, of New Cumberland passed away Friday, December 26, 2003 at the Weirton Medical Center.
He was born November 19, 1934 in Bolivar, New York, a son of Wilma Goodnoe Lundy Winsor of Shinglehouse, Pa and the late William Lundy.
Blackie was a 12 year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a maintenance worker and pilot. He piloted B-29 and B-32 planes. He was a member of the New Cumberland VFW, the Weirton VFW, and the Weirton American Legion. He was a self-employed truck driver. Blackie was instrumental in restarting the New Cumberland Fourth of July fireworks, a commander of the Army Navy Garrison of New Cumberland, an avid antique car collector and a Harley Davidson rider.
He is survived by his wire, Ana Espinosa Lundy, at home; five daughters, Ana Saffle of Weirton, Gloria “Cookie” Lundy, Sidney McLaughlin, Dawn Cervi, all of New Cumberland and Juanita Reinhold of Florida; three brothers, Edward Lundy of Pennsylvania and Richard Lundy and Ronald Winsor, both of Florida; two sisters, Louise Turk and Barbara Tilly, both of Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren and eitht great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Greathouse officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery where the Tri-State Burial Group accorded military services. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation.

TORONTO – Kathryn L. Hammond, 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at the Trinity Medical Center in West Steubenville.
She was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Birmingham, Ala., the daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie E. McBride Hammond.
Ms. Hammond was a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir since 1953. She also served on several of the church boards.
She was a member of the Three Arts Club of Toronto. She helped organize and was a member of the Toronto Retired Educators Association. Ms. Hammond served as the Dean of Girls at Toronto High School from 1949 to 1975, and also was made an honorary graduate of Toronto High School. Prior to that, she taught English and Music at Beallsville Ohio School system from 1943, to 1949.
She has a bachelor’s degree from West Liberty State College and a master’s from Syracuse University.
She was a Truant Officer for the Toronto School District. She was a lifetime member of the Ohio Education Association. She helped organize and was a member of the Toronto Community Concert Band. Ms. Hammond organized the Toronto Unit of the Salvation Army and was co-coordinator of The Salvation Army Kettle Drive. She was the Toronto Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1986. She served the City of Toronto as the Health Commissioner and the Community Service Board.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edna M. Mitchell; and five brothers including George H. and Charles A. Hammond.
Her survivors are niece, Mary Kathryn Strautmann of Toronto; great niece, Jody Strautmann of Toronto; great-great nephew, Mill-Quise Fordham of Toronto; and dear friend, Diana Steele of Toronto.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Riverview United Methodist Church at 105 N. River Ave., Toronto, with George Coffman officiating.
Burial will be at the Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Canton Road in Wintersville, Monday, F3b. 16 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Hibbs officiating.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Helen M. Csheib Beck, 95, formerly of Mitchell Road, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the golden Hill Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Beck had moved to New Castle from East Liverpool in 1998 after living 49 years in this area.
Born in Pittsburgh April 8, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Huebert Scheib.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church here and the St. Vitus Catholic Church in New Castle. She was also very active in the Catholic Daughters of America and was past president of the Altar and Rosary Society while at St. Aloysius. In addition, she was a founding member of the 30 + 30 Club in East Liverpool.
Preceding her in death July 31, 1989, was her husband, George S. Back, whom she married June 18, 1940
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Beck of Stanton, Calif., and Mrs. Stan (Virginia) Lavella of New Castle, with whom she had resided prior to moving to Golden Hill, as well as five grandsons: Kenneth Beck of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Steven Beck of Fountain Valley, Calif.; Danny Beck and his wife Emily of Chula Vista, Calif.; and Michael Lavella and Nicholas Lavella, both of New Castle. There are three great-granddaughters: Cassandra Beck and Sabrina Beck, both of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and Campbell Beck of Chula Vista, Calif.
A sister, Mrs. Naomi Kanzleiter of Harbor Creek, Pa., survives, along with a brother, J. Edwin Scheib and his wife, Armella of Pittsburgh. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Beck Scheib of Pittsburgh, and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Beck of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Mrs. Beck was also predeceased by her son, Robert G. Beck; her sister, Sister Beatrice Scheib; and her brother, Charles Scheib.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at St. Aloysius Church in East Liverpool, with Mrs. Beck’s nephew, Father Joseph Scheib of St. Basil Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, serving as celebrant. Following the Mass, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center, after which burial will be held at 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Pittsburgh.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Iris Montrose ‘Monte’ Walker, 94, formerly of West Fourth Street, died at 2:08 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Adkins Convalescent Center No. 1, where she was a resident, following a lengthy illness.
Born in East Liverpool March 3, 1909, daughter of the late Albert and Sarah Rebecca Van Dyne Dray, she was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
A life long city resident, she worked at Homer Laughlin China Co. at one time, and then worked along with her husband in the brush shop at the Milligan Hardware & Supply.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her husband, Thomas A Walker Jr., whom she married April 26, 1929, died in 1986.
‘ A daughter, Mrs. Edward (joyce Jo-Ann) Wood of Buffton, S. C., and a son Thomas A. Walker III and his wife, Leonda, of East Liverpool survive.
There are seven grandchildren, Mrs. Jeff (Karen ) Zender of East Liverpool, Thomas A. ‘Tim’ Walker IV and his wife, Bea, of East Liverpool, Mrs. Terry (Annette) Null of Hilliard, Ohio, Barbara Ward of Calcutta, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Deem of East Liverpool, Mrs. David (Michele) Guildoo of East Liverpool and Christopher Wood of Las Vegas.
There are 12 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Russell Dray of East Liverpool, and two sisters, Glennrose Mercer of Georgia and Betty Jane Rice of California also survive.
She was preceded by one sister, Gladys Pedeerson, and two brothers, Victor and Albert Dray Jr.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ethel ‘Bonnie’ Armstrong, 83, who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Ms. Armstrong of Riverview Towers, formerly of Holliday Street, was born in Rochester, Pa. on Feb. 20, 1920, a daughter of the late Joseph T. and Mary Ethel Myers Armstrong.
Living most of her life in the area, she worked as a packager for the W. C. Bunting Company, retiring in 1990. she was a 1937 graduate of East Liverpool High School, a member of Boyce United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Homebuilders Class, the Dorthea Memorial circle, served as treasurer of the Women’s Society, member of the Official Board of the Church, former church Secretary and also served on various committees of the church. She worked with the Columbiana County Election Board and with the Chaplaincy Program at East Liverpool City Hospital. Ms. Armstrong enjoyed bowling with many different leagues, enjoyed attending the Olde Guard Luncheons every year and worked with her graduating class in planning many reunions and activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Jody Carroll of East Liverpool and her granddaughter, Amy Maltarich and her husband, Donnie of East Liverpool and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie L. Reed in October of 1980.
Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley of the church officiating.

Lawrence T. Tice

Lawrence T. Tice, age 92, of Third Avenue, New Cumberland, passed away November 15, 1993 at Weirton Medical Center following a short illness.

He was born March 12, 1901 in Zalia, WV a son of the late Amicire and Mary Myers Tice.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Tarr Tice in 1986.

Retired from Globe Brick Co. where he worked as a clay miner, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of New Cumberland.

Surviving are two sons; George Earl Tice of New Cumberland, and Clarence William Tice of Weirton; a daughter Mrs. Boots (Margaret) Graham of Weirton; a sister, Mary Hamill of Weirton; and a brother Harold Tice of Weirton. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held today, Thursday November 18, 1993, 11:00 a.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell with the Rev. Charles Andrews officiating. Interment was made at Paris Cemetery, Paris, Pa.

James R. Tice Sr.
NEWELL — James R. Tice Sr., 65, a lifelong resident of Newell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at East Liverpool City Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born April 27, 1941, in Scottsdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Lena Phillips Tice and James E. Tice.

He was a 1959 graduate of Wells High School and retired from Quaker State Oil Refinery in 1993 after 21 years of service.

He was involved for many years with the area youth football and baseball teams, as well as serving as President of the Waterford Colts Football League in 1972. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Tice, and a sister, Donna Monroe.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary E. Monroe Tice, whom he married Feb. 13, 1960, and his six children: James R. Tice Jr. of Newell, Cindy (Jeff) Mooney of Parma, Ohio, Tammy (Joseph) Ludovici and Mark (Becky) Tice, both of Chester, Sue Ann (Jim) Culp of East Liverpool, and Jason (Crystal) Tice of Weirton.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Austin Tice, Sarah and Matt Mooney, Anthony and Jessie Ludovici, Cody, Tyler and Alyssa Culp, Hanna and Graci Tice, and Chesney and Paisley Tice; along with his beloved black lab, Bear.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Minister Everett Clay officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home.
