WELLSVILLE MAN, 91, DIES FOLLOWING FALL
Samuel Smithers, retired Pennsylvania Railroad Co. car repairman, died Friday at 10 p.m. in his home; 920 commerce St., Wellsville, as the result of injuries suffered in a fail.
Mr. Smithers fell while ascending the stairs to his second-floor bedroom. He died within a few minutes. He was 91.
Mr. Smithers, who lived in Wellsville for 58 years, retired about 20 years ago. He was the oldest member of Lee’s African Methodist Episcopal Church.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Pauline Smithers; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Molbrough of Wellsville; a step-daughter, four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Rites will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Lee’s Chapel by Rev. C. S. Spearman. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery.

Mrs. May McCollum Bonam, 62, widow of Clyde W. Bonam, died Friday at 11:15 a. m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Hindle,1205 Pennsylvania Ave., following a two-year illness.
Mrs. Bonam came to East Liverpool from New Matamoras about 38 years ago. She was a practical nurse for 25 years and was a member of the second United Presbyterian Church.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Bonam leaves a son, Joseph Bonam of East Liverpool; a brother, Y. W. McCollum of Hanover, Licking county, and four grandchildren.
Rites will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Hindle home by Rev. W. E. Speaker, pastor of the Central Methodist Church of Wellsville. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight and Sunday at the Hindle home.

EAST PALESTINE, Dec. 11 – Homer Beight, 55, lifelong resident, died Friday night in Salem City Hospital, which he entered the first of the week for observation.
He was born here June 2, 1893, the son of Elias and Rebecca Painter Beight, and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by two brothers, Edward Beight of East Palestine, and Oliver Beight of Los Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Sheets and Mrs. Lulu Van Fossen, both of East Palestine.
Services will be held at the Van Dyke Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 by Rev. Byron Fruit. Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery.

She was manager of the Beaver County Commissioners Office and a member of St. George Orthodox Church, Midland.
Besides her mother, survivors include her husband, Pete Vorkapich, two sons, Gerald Vorkapich at home and Paul Vorkapich of Beaver Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Katherine Smolar of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, Danny Stambolia of East Liverpool; two sisters, Mrs. Nick (Mildred) Tepsic and Mrs. Daisy Vuyanovich, both of Midland, and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Mercer was born in Piney, W. VA., March 30, 1900, a daughter of James Haught and Melinda Frey Haught.
She had resided in ‘East Liverpool from 1910 until 1929 when she moved to Baden, where she was a domestic worker.
Her husband, Earl Lester Mercer died in Bakersfield, Calif., in 1964.
Survivors include a son, James O. Pasco of Stephensville, Tex., a sister, Mrs. Leora Murphy of East Liverpool, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev, Lee Fetters of the Calvary United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Hazel Heath; four sons, Norman 10, Edward 8, Lloyd 5 and Ernest 2, and two daughters, Dorothy 6, and Margaret 3. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Heath, two brothers, Raymond and Elmer, and one sister, Ora, all of Glendale.
Funeral services will be held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m. followed by services in the Glendale mission at 2:30. Rev. A. D. Mr. Wolf was born in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wolf. He lived here for 60 years.
He served with the 102nd (old 18th) Washington infantry, Pennsylvania volunteers. He waa a member of General Lyon post No. 44, Grand Army of the Republic.
He leaves one son, Harry Wolf of Kensington, O.; two brothers, Martin Wolf and Henry O’Brien of East Liverpool, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Kelly of Kansas City, Mo. He is also survived by three other grandchildren; Mrs. Roy Smith, Roy D. and Harry F. Paisley, and 11 great grandchildren.

Stricken with a heart attack, John George Frey, 60, tinner and roofer of Bloomfield, died before a physician could be summoned after he collapsed while walking in St, Clair ave. near the Horn switch Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
County Coroner Arnold W. Devon ruled death due to a heart attack after an inquest conducted Saturday night.
Mr. Frey was born in Natrona, Pa., and resided in East Liverpool for about years. He was employed by L. T. Capehart until recently.
He leaves two sisters, Mrs. W. S. Knox and Mrs. James Waggle of Dormont, Pittsburgh surburb, and two brothers, Charles H. Frey of Chicago, and William h. Frey of East Liverpool.

The body was removed to the home of his wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Shields in Newark, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Newark.
Mr. Neal was born in East Liverpool, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Neal. His father was a contractor painter and paperhanger here for many years. Mr. Neal left here during the World war and traveled on the Keith vaudeville circuit for about seven or eight years. He was with the Singer Sewing Machine Co. for about six years, having been superintendent in the Marion district since last September.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters; two brothers, Thomas H. Neal of Chester, and Charles J. Neal of Lisbon, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Friednaugh of Lancaster, and Mrs. Kate Jadwin of Pleasant City, O.

Mr. King worked on the old Daily Crisis and became foreman of the Daily Tribune when it began publication in 1902. He later was foreman of the East Liverpool Review. He moved to Warren more than 25 years ago and continued to work at the printing trade until about 10 years ago when he retired. He was born in Lisbon.
While in East Liverpool, Mr. King was a member of the First Methodist Protestant church., He was affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church in Warren.
‘ He leaves his widow, Mrs. Anna Worcester Kong; one daughter, Mrs. Genevieve Thompson at home; one son, Harold King of Warren; two brothers, Judson of Lisbon, and John King of Massillon.

Ulysses G. King, 74, East Liverpool printer, died suddenly following an attack of acute indigestion at his home in 235 Bonnierbrae ave. NE, Warren, Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Robert R. Watson, 46, of Commerce Street, Wellsville died Thursday at 6:13 p.m. at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Portalnd, Ohio, a son of Wallace Watson of East Palestine and Eunice Wynema Larkins Watson of East Liverpool.
Mr. Watson had been employed 20 years as a forklift operator at the Reliance Electric Co. Pump Division at Columbiana before the plant closed in December 1986, and had served with the U.S. Army in Germany. He was the leader of the Country Vibrations Band and a member of the American Federation of Musicians.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Mercer Watson, whom he married March 31, 1964, a son, Robert Troy Watson, at home, two stepsons, Danny Saracco of Wellsville and Randall Saracco of East Liverpool; two stepbrothers, Dale Reese of Sweden, and Brian Reese of Winchester, Ky.; a half-brother, the Rev. Curtis Watson of Winchester; a sister, Mrs. John (Bonnie) Wilkes of East Liverpool; twos stepsisters, Mrs. George (Vickie) Heller of East Palestine and Mrs. John (Sharon) Sharo of Youngstown; and three grandchildren.
The Rev. Robert Hull of the House of Prayer is to conduct services Monday at 11 a.m. at the MacLean Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

TORONTO – Saturday services are planned for Fred Taylor, 70, of Daniels Street who died Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at home follow a lengthy illness.
He was born in Irondale May 18, 1916, a son of the late Frederick G. Taylor and Emma Peters Taylor McIlvain.
Mr. Taylor was retired from the strip steel department at the Weirton Steel Co., and was a member of its 25 Year Club. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American License Plate Collectors Association. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Snyder Taylor, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Vicki) Smith of Toronto; two sisters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Beswick and Mrs. Robert (Peggy) Johnson of Toronto; and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Richard Kantz is to conduct the services at 11 a.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Union Cemetery.
