Simon C. Knight, 60, of 342 Montana Ave., St. Cloud, Fla., formerly of 4479 Middletown Rd, New Middletown, was pronounced dead on arrival Tuesday at 4:27 p.m. at St. Cloud Hospital after taking ill suddenly.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Knight was born June 30, 1918, in Massillon, a son of William Knight and Nona Etta Orbaugh Knight.
He moved to St. Cloud eight months ago.
He was retired fire years ago as an inspector at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co.
Mr. Knight was a member of the Poland Center Community “Church.
In addition to his wife, Mrs. Jean Gilmore Knight, whom he married Dec. 26, 1941, survivors include two sons, Rodney Knight of New Middletown and Jeffrey Knight of Lakeland, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Sandra Stevens of Poland, Mrs. Carol Reese of New Middletown and Mrs. Audrey Hannis of Austintown; three brothers, Russell Knight of Alliance, Clifford Knight of Roland, and Kenneth Knight of New Middletown, seven sisters, Mrs. Viola Hatcher of Akron, Mrs. Mildred Kauffman, Mrs. June Barger, Mrs. Dorothy Felik and Mrs. Delores Heberling, all of New Middletown, Mrs. Edna McGath of St. Cloud and Mrs. Emma Barkley of East Palestine, and six grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home in East Palestine, by the Rev. Wayne E. Meadows of the Free Methodist Community Church in New Middletown. Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home for Mrs. Pauline Flickinger, 78, of the Fawcett Apartments, who died Wednesday morning at the Extended Care Center here.
The Rev. Donald Shank will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Mrs. Flickinger was born in East Liverpool July 29, 1901, a daughter of Silas Green and Martha Smith Green.
She was a retired potter and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Albert F. Flickinger, died April 29, 1967.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Edna McDole of East Liverpool; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Elmer R. (Russ) Brubaker, 81, of 529 College St., died Today at 2 p.m. at Convalescent Center II following a long illness.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Brubaker was born in Altoona, Pa., Feb 3, 1896, a son of Samuel Brubaker and Mary Brubaker.
He had resided here for 40 years where he was retired in 1964 from the Genuine Parts Store. At one time, he worked as a general manager of the former Hayes Motor Co.
Mr. Brubaker was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church and a life member of American Legion Post 4.
In addition to his wife, Mrs. Fern R. Brassine Brubaker at home, whom he married Nov. 5, 1949, survivors include two sisters, Miss Bertha Brubaker of Pa., and Mrs. Christina Imler of Duncansville, Pa.; three brothers, Albert and Donald Brubaker, both of Altoona and Paul Brubaker of Duncansville and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the Dawson Funeral Home here by the Rev. H. Gene Toot. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday and up until the time of the service Saturday.

Neil Shope Dies at 77

Neil P. Shope, 77, of 1130 Dairy Lane, died Wednesday at 1:35 p.m. in City Hospital, where he had been a patient since Jan 18.
Mr. Shope was born in Snow Shoe Centre County, Pa., March 29, 1901, a son of Charles Wesley Shope and Annie Calhoun Shope.
Prior to his illness, he worked as a development engineer at the Salem China Company. At one time, he was in charge of the electric and maintenance departments at the Hall Chino Co. and later supervised the electric department at the Homer Laughlin China Co.
Mr. Shope was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Doris Boice Shope, whom he married March 2o, 1925,survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Patricia) Iofredo of Chagrin And a sister, Mrs. Edwin L. (Violet) Goodwin of Penn Hills, Pa.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. H. Gene Toot and the Rev. Donald Shank, pastor of the First United Methodist Church here. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Mrs. Lula Grace Wilson, 67, widow of Ira Wilson, died Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. B. Van Fosson, 1046, Pan Ave., Chester, following a long illness.
A daughter of the late William and Jennie Saunders, Mrs. Wilson was born Aug. 27, 1881, in Reedy, W. Va. She came to this district abot 25 years ago. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Fairview, W. Va.
Mrs. Wilson leaves five other daughters, Mrs. Mary Meredith of Parkersburg, W. Va., Mrs. Celeste Campbell of Encampment, Wyo., Mrs. Elizabeth Turner of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Lucille Calhoon of Nantucket, Mass., and Mrs. Cora Males of Chester; four sons, Roscoe Wilson of Chester, Earl Wilson of Newell, Okey Wilson of East Liverpool and Edward L. Wilson of Metuchen, N. J.; two brothers, Walter Saunders of Rochester, N. Y., and Charles Saunders of Buffalo, N. Y.; 33 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Rites will be held Saturday at 2 pm. in the Arner Funeral Home in Chester by Rev. C. L. Dotson of Follansbee, former pastor of the Chester Free Methodist Church. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.

Ira J. Wilson, 62, retired carpenter, died in his home on the Fairview road, Chester, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. following a long illness.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Chester lodge of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Grace Wilson; four sons, Earl of Newell, Roscoe and Okey of Chester and Loil Wilson of New Brunswick, N. J.; six daughters, Mrs. Pear Van Fossan of Ripley, W. Va., Mrs. Betty Eldridge of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Mary Meredith of Parkersburg, W.VA., Mrs. William Bennett and Celeste and Lucille Wilson of Chester; one sister, Miss Ida Wilson of Harrisville, W. Va.; and two brothers, Guy Wilson of Harrisville, and Creed Wilson of West Union, W. Va.
Funeral services will be held in the home Friday at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Rev. W. T. McKee, retired pastor of the Chester Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.

W.W. Risher, One-Time Potter Here, Buried in Los Angeles

Funeral service were held at Los Angeles today for Winifred W. Risher, 46, formerly of East Liverpool and brother-in-law of Mrs. Edgar McVey of 153 Pennsylvania avenue, who died Monday morning following an extended illness.
Mr. Risher, a potter by trade, moved to California about 14 years ago. He was engaged in the insurance business in California.
The deceased is survived by his widoe, formerly Hazel Marsh and a sister of Mrs. McVey, and one brother of Toronto. Burial was in Los Angeles.

WELLSVILLE -- Joseph Spann, 76, of 412 Johnson Pl. died this morning at 3:03 in East Liverpool City Hospital, after becoming ill.
A native of Columbia, S. C., Mr. Spann, was born July 5, 1907, a son of Jacob Spann and Maggie Mack Spann.
He retired in 1972 from MacIntosh-Hemphill Division of Gulf in Midland, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Lula Trapp Spann, at home, survivors include two brothers, Jacob Spann and Arthur Spann, both of Columbia, And two grandchildren.
Services are to be held Saturday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Roosevelt Thompson at the First Baptist Church, where friends may call after 10 a.m.
Other calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacLean Funeral Home.
Burial is to be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

He retired as a carpenter, after 27 years with Local 186 in Steubenville.
Mr. Wilson was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church and American Legion Post 86.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Catherine Haynes Wilson, whom he married Aug. 29, 1953,survivors include three daughters, Mrs. George (Pat) Scott and Mrs. Richard (Virginia) Stimpert of Toronto, and Mrs. David (Darlene) Dees of New Cumberland; four sons, David Wilson and Robert Stewart, both of Houston, Texas, and James Wilson at home and Larry Wilson of Bloomingdale; five sisters, Mrs. Homer (Celeste) Nutter of Wyoming, Mrs. Jesse (Betty ) Turner of Florida, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Meredith of Parkersburg, W.VA., Mrs. Jesse (Cora) Males and Mrs. Joseph (Lucille ) Calhoon, both of Stasconset, Mass.; a brother, Rosco Wilson of Chester; 17 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Cora Belle Males, 74, of the Fox Nursing Home in Chester, died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1989, at the nursing home following a lingering illness.
She was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Leroy, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ira Wilson and Lula Saunders Wilson.
A longtime resident of Chester, Mrs. Males was a handle finisher 32 years at the Homer Laughlin China Co., before retiring in 1973, and was a member of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union.
Her first husband, William E. Bennett, died in 1943, and her second husband Jesse E. Males, died in 1966.
Survivors include a son, Jesse E. Males Jr. of Williamsburg, Ky.: five daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Martha) Speece of Chester, Mrs. Nelson (Myrtle) Eldridge and Miss Elsie Sue Males of Sisasiasconset, Mass., Mrs. Joseph (Linda) Rezendes of Nantucket, Mass., and Mrs. Gil (Kimberly) Alcaras of Virginia Beach, Va.: a brother, Roscoe Wilson of Chester; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Cahoon of Chester, Mrs. Elizabeth Turner of North Port, Fla., and Mrs. W ilma Nutter of Encampment, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

Mrs. Mabel M. Hughes, 77, of Ohio Avenue, East Liverpool, died at 11:55 pm.. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1989, at City Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born here June 2, 1912, a daughter of the late John W Hughes and Anna Mae Thompson Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples), and attended its Loyal Workers Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Joseph A. Hughes, whom she married April 12, 1929, died April 25, 1981.
Survivors include a son, Joseph D. Hughes, of East Liverpool; a sister, Mrs. Fret (Violet) Jamison of East Liverpool; two brothers, Herbert Hughes of East Liverpool and Wilmer Hughes of Louisville; and two grandsons.
Pastor Herbert Gillen of the church is to conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Bliss, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Dorothy) Poole of Denver, Colo., and Miss Carolyn Sue Wilson, at home; six sisters, Mrs. Celesta Nutter of Encampment, Wyo., Mrs. Elizabeth Turner of Springfield, Va., Mrs. Lucille Calhoun of Nantucket, Mass., Mrs. Mary Merdith of Parkersburg, W. VA., Mrs. Pearl Vanfossan of East Liverpool, Mrs. Cora Males of Chester; three brothers, Edward L. Edward Loyal Wilson, 58, of Indianapolis died today at 3 a.m. in a veterans hospital there following a lengthy illness. He had resided in East Liverpool about 10 years, leaving this area in 1964.
Born Jan. 16, 1911, in Leroy W. Va., he was a son of the late Ira Wilson and Grace Saunders Wilson.
Survivors include two brothers, Roscoe (Jiggs) Wilson of Chester and Okey Wilson of Richmond, Ohio, and six sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Pearl) VanFossen of East Liverpool, Mrs. W. F. (Celesta) Nutter of Incampment, Wyo., Mrs. J. S. (Elizabeth) Turner of Springfield, Va., Mrs. Richard (Mary) Meredith of Washington, W. Va., Mrs. Cora Males of Chester and Mrs. Joseph (Lucille ) Calhoon of Largo, Fla.

Mr. Chambers was employed at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring in 1966.
His first wife, Etta Knauf Chambers, died in 1955.
His second wife, Ja Emler Chambers, died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Clifford C. Chambers of Brighton Township and Sarretts K. Chambers of Scenery Hill, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services ware planned at 10 a.m. Saturday at eh D. L. Williams Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Daugherty Township.

ROGERS – Foyn E. Wright, 58, of RD 1, a retired steel worker, died Wednesday at 8:26 a.m. at Salem Community Hospital East, where he had been a patient for 10 days. He had been ailing with a heart condition.
A native of Elkrun Township, Mr. Wright was born Oct. 13, 1913, a son of Norman Wright of Rogers and the late Mary Morris Wright. He had resided in the Rogers area his lifetime. He retired in 1967 from the Midland Crucible Division of Colt Industries.
Mr. Wright served in World War II from 1942-1945, including the European Theater. He was a member of the Rogers Christina Church, the DAV and was active in school function. He was married March 11, 1945, to the former Eleanor Merritt, who survives at home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Lucinda) Winters of Rogers; two sons, Dan E. Wright, stationed with the Army at Denver, Colo., and William N. Wright, at home; a sister, Mrs. Jayne Fagan of Oxnard, Calif., and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 .m. at the Rogers Church by the Rev. James Crawford. Burial will be in Kimbel Cemetery, near Rogers.
Friends may call at the Warrick Funeral Home in Columbiana Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1 up to the time of services.

LISBON – Mrs. Gertrude M. Faust, 81, of 513 E. Chestnut St., died Saturday at 1:20 p.m. at the Hutton Nursing Home Center No. 2 in Salem. She had been ill since November.
She was born at Wheeling Island, W. Va., April 27, 1904, a daughter of William Mathis and Edna Gately Mathis, and moved to this area in 1947 from Martins Ferry
She was a member of St. George Catholic Church and its Alta and Rosary Society.
Her husband, Charles Faust died Nov. 4, 1964.
She is survived by a son, Charles W. Faust of Lisbon, and several cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated at St. George Catholic Church Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. by the Rev. Father John Schmidt. Burial is to e in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Wheeling, W. Va.
Friends may call at the Eells-Leggett Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary is to be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. Richard M. Stanley, 81, formerly of 1072 Bank St., died Saturday at 9 p.m. at the home of her son, Kenneth G. Stanley of Dallas, Tex., following a brief illness.
Mrs. Stanley was born in East Liverpool to the late George Shaw and Mary Mayer Shaw. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
She also leaves her husband, James G. Stanley of Dallas; a brother George S. Shaw and a sister, Mrs. Clara Gatton, both of Beaver, and six grandchildren.
The Dawson Funeral Home is arranging services.

Funeral services for Roy B., Ferguson, 23, of Charleston, W. Va., marine veteran of World War II and brother of O. W. Ferguson and John Ferguson of Chester, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the United Brethren church in Ripley, W. Va. Burial was in Ripley cemetery.
He died last Thursday at his home as a result of wounds received in battles in the Marshall Islands and Saipan.
He also is survived by his widow, Mrs. Betty Beymer Ferguson, and daughter, Joyce Lynn Ferguson, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Ferguson of Ripley; three other brothers, Seaman (1c) Gerald Ferguson and Marine Sgt. Ronald Ferguson, both in the South Pacific, and Ralph Ferguson, Ripley, and four sisters, Miss Faustine Ferguson of Charleston, Mrs. J. F. Creque of Akron, and Mrs. R. B. Parsons and Mrs. David Haley, both of Ripley.

Martin J. Gill - Obituary

Martin J. Gill, 73, potter, 245 West Third st., died Sunday at 11 a.m. in City hospital from an illness of pneumonia, which followed a fall.
Mr. gill was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago with a broken left hip received in a fall while walking on Fourth st.
He spent his lifetime in East Liverpool. He was a caster and was employed at the Taylor, Smith & Taylor Co. in Chester. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic church and of the National Brother hood of Operative Potters.
Mr. Gill leaves two sons, Dr. Wilfred Gill of Cleveland, and Vincent Gill of Washington, and a sister, Mrs. Celia Farmer of West Fourth st.
The body was taken to Cleveland for funeral services probably on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Cleveland.

EAST PALESTINE – Miss Mabel A. Wetzel, 56, formerly of 110 Vine St., died at 7:45 a.m. today at the Columbiana County Home Hospital after an illness of two years.
She was born July 3, 1915, in Unity, a daughter of Curtis M. and Maude Buhecker Wetzel. Miss Wetzel was a decorator at the former W. S. George Pottery Co. here for many years and was employed last as a decorator at Kingwood China here. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and East Palestine Chapter 381 , Order of Eastern Star.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Van Dyke Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. Lee Filker, former pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the United Church of Christ Cemetery at Unity.

Mrs. Francis Ellen Shaffer Root, 76, of 2711 w. 48th ST., Shawnee Mission, Kan., died Wednesday at 4:45 a.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Root was born in East Liverpool Dec. 28, 1895, a daughter of John W. Shaffer and Anna Wigel Shaffer. She left here about 20 years ago and spent 10 years in Phoenix, Ariz., and the last 10 years in Kansas.
Survivors include a son, George Albert Owen of Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Lilly) Simon of Phoenix and Mrs. Bertha McKenzie of Barberton, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Willard C. Billica of the Chester First United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday night.

Death Claims War Veteran

Sheldon H. Clendenning, 41, of Irondale RD 1, an employe at the Weirton Steel Co. and a World War II Army veteran, died suddenly apparently of a heart attack Thursday, about 11p.m. at his home
He was born March 16, 1921, in Toronto to Virgil Clendenning and Luella Dillon Clendenning.
He was a member of the Hammondsville American Legion Post 742.
Besides his parents in Toronto, he leaves his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Blackburn Clendenning, a son, Barry Dee Clendenning, and a daughter, Miss Sheila Rae Clendenning, all at home, and three sisters, Mrs. Orville Hupp and Mrs. Darrell Stickler, both of Toronto, and Mrs. William Watts of Ambridge.
Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. a the Clarke Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Dailey of the First Methodist Church and the Rev. Ralph Cope of the River Ave. Church of Christ of Toronto. Burial will be in Island Creek Cemetery, Toronto.

Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church for Raymond Hanley, 72, of 15500 Lois Ln., Calcutta Acres.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at city Hospital Friday at 6:21 p.m. after taking ill at home.
Mr. Hanley was born in Pittsburgh July 19, 1901, but had resided here most of his life. He was retired from the former Harker China Co.
He was a member of the St. John Church and its Men’s Brotherhood Class, the Calcutta Grange, serving as overseer at the time of his death, and was a seventh-degree member of the grange. He was an honorary member of the IBPAW.
Mr. Hanley is survived by his widow, Mrs. Grace Wright Hanley, at home; a sister, Mrs. Leo (Hilda) Everitt of Gilford Lake and several nephews.
Pastor Ron Lee will conduct the Monday afternoon services. Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home any time Sunday and on Monday an hour prior to the services at the church, where the body will lie in state.
