COLUMBIANA – Mildred L. Detchon, 85, a resident at Whispering Pines Village, Columbiana, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Salem Community Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Hammondsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late John And Blanche (Robb) Tice. Mildred retired after 12 years working as a cleaning matron for the Salem City School District.
She has memberships in the Salem and Lisbon Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Ohio Public School Employees and enjoyed playing bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband, John William Detchon on Feb. 24, 1991. They were married on Aug. 26, 1950. five brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
Survivors include one daughter, Alberta Nicotera and her husband, Angelo, of Leetonia; four sons, Gene Leffler of Indianapolis, Ind., Chuck Leffler and his wife Sandy of Kentland, Ind., Frank Detchon and his wife Becky of Leetonia and Douglas Detchon and his wife Gayle of Salem; two sisters, Violet Weaver of Chester and Dolly Thomas of East Liverpool; one brother, Sonny Tice of California; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home, Wellsville, with the Rev. Vickie Yoder of the Leetonia Mennonite Church presiding. Burial will follow in Hammondsville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville.
