James R. Tice Sr.
NEWELL — James R. Tice Sr., 65, a lifelong resident of Newell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at East Liverpool City Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born April 27, 1941, in Scottsdale, Pa., he was the son of the late Lena Phillips Tice and James E. Tice.
He was a 1959 graduate of Wells High School and retired from Quaker State Oil Refinery in 1993 after 21 years of service.
He was involved for many years with the area youth football and baseball teams, as well as serving as President of the Waterford Colts Football League in 1972. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Tice, and a sister, Donna Monroe.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary E. Monroe Tice, whom he married Feb. 13, 1960, and his six children: James R. Tice Jr. of Newell, Cindy (Jeff) Mooney of Parma, Ohio, Tammy (Joseph) Ludovici and Mark (Becky) Tice, both of Chester, Sue Ann (Jim) Culp of East Liverpool, and Jason (Crystal) Tice of Weirton.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Austin Tice, Sarah and Matt Mooney, Anthony and Jessie Ludovici, Cody, Tyler and Alyssa Culp, Hanna and Graci Tice, and Chesney and Paisley Tice; along with his beloved black lab, Bear.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Minister Everett Clay officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home.
