CHESTER – Arthur E. Lewis, 87, of Chester, died on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at the residence of his daughter in Negley.
A son of he late Angelo “LoVisa: Lewis and Elveria Antonini Lewis, Art was born on July 26, 1918 in Ramsey, Ohio.
A self made entrepreneur, Art Started and operated several business in the Tri-State area.
A veteran of the U. S. Marines 1st marine division during World War II, Art was at the center of the Guadal Canal conflict and his picture appeared in Life Magazine during that confrontation.
A live time member of VFW post 6450 in Chester, he was alos a memberof the American Legion Post 121.
His wife Beverley Doerr Lewis preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1981. also preceding him were his brothers and sisters, John, William, Ray, Mary, Margaret and Edith.
Surviving are his son, Raymond Lewis and his wife Kay of Woodbridge, Va. And his daughter, Gwendolyn Cain and her husband Lee of Negley. A sister, Lillian of Oregon also survives.
Surviving grandchildren include Paul and Dexter Alford and Tara Lewis-Veltre.
In addition there are five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lacy, Dalton, Ambria and Drake.
His best pal and ex-Marine buddy Gene Vassall of Atlanta, Ga. Survives as well.
The Rev. Donna Todd will conduct services on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2p.m. until the time of the services. Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
