Betty Jean Grimes, 73

CHESTER – Betty Jean Grimes, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at City Hospital.

She was born in Newell Feb. 7, 1925, a daughter of the late James H. and Goldie Mae Dennis Grimes.

A lifelong area resident, she was a school teacher for 39 years. She taught at Chester Central , Chester Junior High and Allison Elementary.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Chester, where she served as Sunday school superintendent, teaching both Sunday school and Bible school. She was also a member of the TLC Group and the Young of Heart Senior Sit Group. She was a member of the West Virginia Teachers Association and the National Teachers Association and served as a Grey Lady with City Hospital. She was an avid bell collector, belonging to the American Bell Association and having a collection of 2,000 bells.

She is survived by a brother, Monty Mack Grimes of New Cumberland.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Edgar Grimes.

Minister Jerry Hillyer of the church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 today and form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday.
