Josephine M. “Jo” Bonessi

CHESTER – Josephine J. “Jo” Bonessi passed quietly and peacefully away on April 5, 2007, after a long, lingering illness.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1923, to the late James and Elizabeth Fiala Bonessi.

Jo was raised in Chester, and graduated in 1946 from Geneva College, whe she studied business education.

Following graduation she taught commercial education at Chester and Oak Glen High schools until her retirement. She was involved in theatre productions, which she loved.

After retiring in 1984, Jo devoted her time to caring for other disabled members of her family and in 1992 she suffered a stroke which left her disabled.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, who died at an early age; her sister, Angeline Masters, of Midland, who recently passed away in February 2007. Her brother, Dr. John J. Bonessi, passed away in 1989.

She is survived by a younger sister, Inez of Chester, and Dr. James V. Bonessi of Mt Vernon, Elizabeth Township, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews now living in Baltimore, Md., New York City, Atlanta, Ga., South Bend, Ind., and Greater Pittsburg area.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a. m. on Monday, April 9, at Sacred Heart Church in Chester, by Father Lino Ebejer followed by interment in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Wellsville.

Friends will be received at the Arner Funeral Chapel, 607 Carolina Ave., Chester, Saturday, April 7, for 6 to 9 p.m. and form 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home before Mass on Monday April 9, 2007. Memorial contribution can be made to the church or a favorite charity.
