Charles “Dick” Rayburn, 87, of Newell, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011.
Born October 21, 1923 in Red Rose, WV, he was a son of the late Gordon and Fanny Howell Rayburn.
Dick was a World War II Navy Veteran, a 1941 graduate of Wells High School and retired form Globe Brick. He was a charter member of the Newell America Legion and a member of the Newell Volunteer Fire Department.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Ronnie, Barry and Jerry Rayburn; two brothers, Forrest and Dennis Rayburn; and a sister, Agatha Bekar.
Dick is survived by his wife, Mary Runion Rayburn of Newell; a son, Chuck Rayburn of California; three daughters, Carol (John) Burda of Beaver, Karen Birkheimer of California and Denise Aragon of Newell; eight grandchildren, Jason, Cara Camie, Mandy, Brittany, Courtney, Jeb and Justin; and two great grandchildren, Emily and Olivia.
Funeral services were held Mon., May 30, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell. Pastor Scott Henry officiated. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the West Virginia Burial Guard conducted military honors and a fireman’s service was conducted by the Newell Volunteer Fire Department.
