Thomas Rector, 84, of Newell passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was a son of the late Commodore C. and Evelyn Goddard Rector and was born on December 12, 1926 in Chester.
Tom was a 565 year employee of Homer Laughlin China Company where he retired as Plant Supervisor.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chester, attended the former Chester High School, and had enjoyed playing baseball with the Chester Old Timers baseball team.
Tom served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
A son, Richard Rector, formerly of New Cumberland, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas D. Rector and his wife, Paula of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Terri Taylor and her husband Ron of East Liverpool; a sister, Kathleen Shattenberg of Chester; three grandchildren, Richard “Bud” Rector and his wife Denise of Marshall, TX; and Evan and Michael Rector of Pittsburgh. His faithful companion Ben survives as well.
Rev. Duane Hetzer, Chaplain at East Liverpool city Hospital conducted services on Friday, July 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester. Interment followed at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell where the tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the WV National Guard accorded full military honors.
