Walter J. Sobel
Died Fri., Sept 5, 2003

Walter J. Sobel, 82, of New Cumberland passed away Friday, September 5, 2003.
He was born on March 14, 1921 in Farrell, PA, a son of the late Karol and Kathrine Vizidacua Sobel.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving with Company M, 330th Infantry, 83rd Division. During World War II he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the Argonne Forest and the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and was decorated by the French Government with the Jubilee of Liberty medal. He was retired from National Steel Co. after 43 years of service, last working as a foreman of the Track Gang. He was a member of the New Cumberland V.F.W., the Chester American Legion, Weirton Moose, Weirton Steel Management club and the Weirton Steel Twenty-Five Year Club. He was also a member o the New Cumberland Christian Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley Sobel and two infant brothers, Tommy and Edward; two sisters, Virginia Bennett and an infant sister, Laura.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estella Hill Sobel at home; two daughters, Cathy Sobel of New Cumberland and Lynn Swan of and her husband, Joe of New Cumberland; two grandsons, Joe Swan and his wife, Kassy Kelley of Morgantown and Michael Swan and his wife, Lisa of Morganton, North Carolina; three great grandchildren, Wil of Morgan town and Landon and Walt of Morganton; a brother, Thomas Sobel and his wife, Nancy of New Cumberland, a sister, Antoinette Kaczmarek of New Cumberland and two surrogate grandchildren, Donn and Kristen Costello of Columbus, OH.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Minister Rick Tinsky officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery where the Tri-State Veteran’s Burial Group accorded military services.

Terry Emerson Joy, 70, of New Cumberland passed away Monday, February 10, 2003 at home.
He was born June 12, 1932 in New Cumberland, a son of the late Emmett R. and Garnet Kaylor Joy. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn Kneufener.
He had been employed with the former Crescent Brick Company and the Joe Bartolovich Contracting Company. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Ohio Gun Collectors. Terry loved to read, hunt and care wood. He was a Protestant by faith.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Crummitt Joy, at home; a daughter, Carol Ann Joy, at home; two sons, James Joseph Joy and his wife, Terri Ann of Weirton and Jason Thomas Joy , at home; a brother, Emmett R. Joy of McArthur, Oh; a sister, Justine Chamberlain of New Cumberland and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home on Friday, February 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Joy and Rev. Kevin Bowers officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery. The New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Stone Pierce Misoyianis, born January 26, 2003, in Akron Passed away January 27, 2003. He was a son of Angel Mayhew and Steve Misoyianis.
Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Jordan Mayhew and Dustin Jenkins; maternal grandparents, Craig and Donna Mayhew of Chester and Dianna and Bill Prodonovich of East Liverpool; maternal great grandparents, Delores and John Eslary of New Manchester and George and Wanda Mayhew of Empire, OH; maternal great-great-grandparents, Rosa Virden of New Manchester, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Cox of new Cumberland and Leona Cox of Weirton.
Arrangements were private at the convenience of the family. Nixon Funeral Home, Newell Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

James Cunningham Obituary

James Cunningham, 73, of Austin, TX, formerly of New Cumberland passed away Thursday, February 6, 2003 after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 15, 1929 a son of the late Alex and Jessie Cunningham. He was also preceded in death by brother, Russell.
James is survived by his wife, Jeanne Gillis Cunningham of Austin; a son, Scott and his wife, Elizabeth, also of Austin; a daughter, Tammi and her husband, Sewall of Arizona; two brothers, Hugh Cunningham of Chester and Donald Cunningham of Weirton; four sisters, Patricia Myers of New Manchester, Sara Bonda of Clearwater, FL, Mary Weekley of New Cumberland and Betts Meikle of New Manchester; two grandchildren, Marissa and Travis of Austin and nieces of nephews.
A memorial service was held in Austin at St. Catherines on Saturday, February 8, 2003.

Charles W. Simms Obituary

Charles W. Simms
Died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003

Charles W. Simms, 75, of New Cumberland, passed away Monday, September 15, 2003 at his residence.
He was born April 16, 1928 in Alexandria, VA, a son of the late Nellie Simms.
He was an United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired as city auditor for the City of Alexandria where he was head of the finance department. He was a race horse trainer and owner at Mountaineer Race Track for years.
He is survived by many friends.
Interment was made in the New Cumberland Cemetery.

Exelee Pittman Obituary

Died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003

Exelee Pittman, 77, of RD 2, New Cumberland passed Friday, September 19, 2003 at the Weirton Medical Center.
She was born December 17, 1925, a daughter of the late John M. and Maggie Bell Neff Leek. She was also preceded in death my her husband, Earl Eugene Pittman; a son, Terry Pittman; a brother, Pete Leek; a sister, Lucille Eastham and a granddaughter, Exelee “Lela” Pittman.
She was a Protestant by faith and was a homemaker.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Pittman of Middlebourne, WV, Norman Pittman and Lloyd Pittman both of New Cumberland and Charles Pittman of Follansbee; three daughters, Evelyn Bailey of Canton, OH, Patricia O’Hanlon of New Cumberland and Wilsie Galiano of Follansbee; two brothers, Loman Leek and Lloyd Leek, both of Middlebourne; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private burial was made in the Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville. Arrangements handled by the Turley Funeral Home.

INDUSTRY, Pa. – Pauline L. Fantone, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at her residence.
Born Sept. 1, 198, in East Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Alena Pinkerton Stephens.
She was a member of the Midland ecumenical Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Fantone.
She is survived by her son, John Fantone, with whom she made her home; for grandsons; brother, Herman Stephens of California; sisters, Edna Swift of California and Donna Smith of Ohio
The Rev. Rico J. Vespa will officiate services at 11 a.m. Saturday at D.L Williams Funeral Home in Midland. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
