LISBON – Marjorie R. Johnston, 79, of Thomas Road, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at home following a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Yealey Detchon.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford W. Johnston; a daughter, Lynne Andrews of Lisbon; a brother, Harry Detchon of Florida; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Rev. Mark Wilds conducted private funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home. Burial in Woodland Cemetery in Salineville.
Private visitation was held Monday.

EAST LIVERPOOL – Clara G. Price, 81, of Baxter Street, died at 5:36 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, at East Liverpool City Hospital.
Born in Burning Springs, W.Va., Sept. 25, 1922, daughter of the late Jasper Lee Hudson and Bertie Ann Estep Hudson, she was Nazarene by faith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Lee Wilson; her second husband, Dewey J. Price; and a daughter, Helen G. Wilson.
She is survived by four sons, John R. Green of Colonial Beach, Va., Mickey Hudson of Westlake, Ohio, bobby Lee Wilson of Keene, N. H. and J. Steve Wilson of Toronto; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Spring Grove Cemetery.
The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

TORONTO – Eva P. “Tinker” Gowin, 55, of Mellwood Drive, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at the Trinity Medical Center-West in Steubenville.
She was born in Akron April 29, 1947,a daughter of the late Amos Edward and Florence Lulu Walker Thompson.
She was employed for the Carriage Inn of Steubenville, Ohio Valley Home Health and Heritage Home Health as a nurses aide and also as a private duty nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley E. Gowin.
She is survived by two sons, Mike Gowin and Gregory Gowin at home; a stepdaughte, Mrs. Wayne (LuAnn) Mullen of Winter Springs. Fla., a brother, Victor Bork of Snowflake, Ariz.; and a sister, Kay Bork of Toronto.
A private family graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Follansbee, W.Va.
Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Clarke Funeral Home.

WELLSVILLE – Flora Margaret Mills, 84, of Clark Avenue, died at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at East Liverpool City Hospital.
She was born in Tazwell, Tenn., Nov. 18, 1917, the daughter of the late Campbell and Lucy Allice Ramsey.
She had worked as a ware maker in area potteries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Mills, and a daughter, Patricia Tranter.
She is survived by a son, Randall Mills, with whom she resided; a daughter, Nancy Champ of Wellsville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Gene Koontz will conduct services at 3 p.m. Friday at the Roberts Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service.

Martha M. Jones Obituary

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Martha M. Jones, 65, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at her home.
She was born in New Cumberland June 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Harold C. and Ruby Craft Martin.
She attended the First Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Jones; two sons, James W. Jones Jr. Of Toronto and Kenneth C. Jones of Wintersville; twos daughters, Sandra C. Kubik of Waycross, Ga., and Jennifer S. Muntifering of Ormond Beach; and six grandchildren.
Pastor Dennis Kelley will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Turley Funeral Home in New Cumberland. Burial will be in New Cumberland Cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

James F. Stouffer Sr. Obituary

James F. Stouffer, Sr, 79, of RD #2, New Cumberland passed away Tuesday February 11, 2003.
He was born April 15, 1923 in German Twp., PA, a son of the late Kenneth and Nevada Harshman Stouffer. He was also preceded in death by infant twin sisters and a sister, Nevada M. Stouffer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was retired from Weirton Steel Company after 38 years, last working as a first helper in the Blast Furnace. He was a member of the 25 Year Club, the Chester-Newell Sportsman’s Club and N.R.A. He was Protestant by faith and attended the New Cumberland Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married April 4, 1946, Mary Hawk Stouffer, at home, two sons, James Stouffer Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline and Henry Stouffer and his wife, Vickie all of RD #2, New Cumberland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Walter (Lynn Ann) Wiltrout of Scottdale, PA, Mrs. Fred (Mary) Fletcher and Mrs. Donald (Carole) Foltz, Jr., all of RD #2 New Cumberland; four brothers, Wayne Stouffer of RD #2 New Cumberland, Paul Stouffer and Earl Stouffer, both of Scott dale, jerry Stouffer of /RD 1 Chester; five sisters, Margaret Schwab of Scottdale, Janet Pawlikowsky and Myrtle Geyer, both of Mt. Pleasant, PA and Roberta Geyer and Carole Kieger, both of Connellsville, PA; 18 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Newell Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. with Minister Sherrill Fritts officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery where the Tri-State Veteran’s Burial Group accorded military services.

Walter J. Sobel Obituary

Walter J. Sobel

Walter J. Sobel, 82, of New Cumberland passed away Friday, September 5, 2003.
He was born on March 14, 1921 in Farrell, PA, a son of the late Karol and Kathrine Vizidacua Sobel.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving with Company M, 330th Infantry, 83rd Division. During World War II he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the Argonne Forest and the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and was decorated by the French Government with the Jubilee of Liberty medal. He was retired from National Steel Co. after 43 years of service, last working as a foreman of the Track Gang. He was a member of the New Cumberland V.F.W., the Chester American Legion, Weirton Moose, Weirton Steel Management club and the Weirton Steel Twenty-Five Year Club. He was also a member o the New Cumberland Christian Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley Sobel and two infant brothers, Tommy and Edward; two sisters, Virginia Bennett and an infant sister, Laura.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estella Hill Sobel at home; two daughters, Cathy Sobel of New Cumberland and Lynn Swan of and her husband, Joe of New Cumberland; two grandsons, Joe Swan and his wife, Kassy Kelley of Morgantown and Michael Swan and his wife, Lisa of Morganton, North Carolina; three great grandchildren, Wil of Morgan town and Landon and Walt of Morganton; a brother, Thomas Sobel and his wife, Nancy of New Cumberland, a sister, Antoinette Kaczmarek of New Cumberland and two surrogate grandchildren, Donn and Kristen Costello of Columbus, OH.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with Minister Rick Tinsky officiating. Interment followed at the New Cumberland Cemetery where the Tri-State Veteran’s Burial Group accorded military services.
