NANCY DAVIDSON - Obituary

Mrs. Nancy Davidson, aged 73, died at 9:10 o'clock Saturday night (Dec. 29, 1906) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. L. Morris, corner of Ninth and Commerce streets, after a two weeks' illness of bronchial trouble. Deceased was born near the Brick church and was united in marriage in 1856 to Kenneth Davidson, to which union were born six children, three of whom survive as follows: William and Mrs. W. L. Morris of Wellsville, and Daniel, of Lisbon, who is deputy clerk of courts.

Mrs. Davidson was a active member of the First Presbyterian church and was prominent in the Women's Relief Corps, of which she was president for a number of years.

Funeral services will be held a the home of Mrs. Morris this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. J. Hutchinson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.

ELIZABETH McCLAREN - Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth McClaren, aged 80 years, died at 12:30 o'clock Sunday (Dec. 30, 1906), the anniversary of her birthday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. M. Snediker, after a year's illness of dropsy. She was born near Hookstown, Pa., and had lived nearly her entire life in Wellsville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the funeral services Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock will be conducted by the Rev. W. J. Hutchinson, pastor of that church. Interment will be in Spring Hill cemetery.

JUSTINA THORN - Obituary

Mrs. Justina Thorn, wife of Joseph Thorn, aged 70 died at her home, corner of Fifth and Washington streets, at 8:45 Saturday morning (Dec. 29, 1906) after a lingering illness. Deceased had been an invalid for a number of years and her death was not unexpected. She was born in Lancaster county, Pa., and had made her home in Wellsville for 45 years. She is survived by her husband and four children: Mrs. John P. Kaufman, Mrs. J. C. Graham and Miss Rachel of Wellsville and William of Yellow Creek.

Deceased was a member of the First M. E. church and funeral services will be conducted a the home today by the Rev. W. H. Dye, pastor of that church, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Dye will be assisted by the Rev. W. C. Prewitt, pastor of the First Christian church.

Mrs. Lucie B. Ballantyne

New Cumberland - Services for Mrs. Lucie Brown Ballantyne, 76, of Ridge avenue will be held Monday 2 p. m. in the Fields Funeral home with the Rev. W. H. Flurkey, pastor of the Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery.

Mrs. Ballantyne died on Friday morning at the Clinton Memorial hospital in New Wilmington, Ohio. She became ill while visiting her daughter, Mrs. Harold Ubile in New Vienna, Ohio.

She was born on May 23, 1880, the only daughter of Adrian Wilmer Brown and Mary Morrow Brown. She had one brother, the late R. M. Brown, who had been the clerk of Hancock County Circuit Court and publisher of the Hancock County Independent. Attorney Brown died on October 4, 1946 and his work as publisher was undertaken by his son, Scott Brown, who died on January 24, 1956.

Mrs. Ballantyne graduated from New Cumberland High school and West Virginia university. She had taught in Marshall and West Liberty colleges. She was married to Nathaniel Wallace Ballantyne on December 4, 1906. Her husband died May 28, 1949. Mrs. Ballantyne was an active member of the New Cumberland Presbyterian church, the Woman's club and the Steubenville Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a charter member of the Theta chapter of the Chi Omega Sorority of West Virginia University.

Her son, Robert Brown Ballantyne, died on March 4, 1956. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Dailey of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Ulble and 12 grandchildren. Friends may call at the Fields Funeral home after 7 p. m. today.

Mrs. Sarah Hooper

NEW CUMBERLAND - Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Hooper, 83, of Second avenue, died at 9:30 p. m. Thursday in the Grigsby Nursing Home after two months illness. She was born on February 18, 1872 in New Matamoras, O., daughter of the late Vatch and Nancy Ward Moore and was a resident of New Cumberland for 69 years.

Survivors are: three daughters, Mrs. Charles Saffle, Crosscreek, W. Va., Mrs. Hamilton Stewart, Steubenville, and Mrs. Joseph Huckestein, Houston, Tex.; sons, Earl of Pughtown, and Evert of New Cumberland; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. William Demharter of Canal Fulton, O.

Friends will be received in the Fields Funeral Home after 7 p. m. today. Services will be held in the chapel Sunday 2 p. m. with the Rev. Kenneth Fordyce in charge. Burial will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery.

NEWELL - Stricken while at work for Homer Laughlin China company on Friday James J. Costello, 48, of 417 Grant street, was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Liverpool City hospital Friday 8 a.m. He was a foreman in the dipping shed.

Mr. Costello was born in Washington, Pa., son of the late John and Ann Costello. He was affiliated with the St. Aloysius Catholic church. Besides his wife, Bernice, he leaves: two sisters, Mrs. Nell Cummings and Mary Costello fo Stowe; and three brothers, John of Akron, Joseph of Youngstown and Michael of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California.

The body is at the Dawson Funeral home.

CHARLES F. MERCER - Obituary

Charles F. Mercer

Charles F. Mercer, 63, a prominent New Cumberland resident passed away Saturday evening at the Fox Rest Home in Chester where he had been a patient for the past three months. Mercer was born on January 19, 1893 in New Cumberland. He was a son of John T. Mercer and of the late Eva Lee Mercer. Mercer was a riverman by trade. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his father, John T. Mercer, New Cumberland; five sons, Raymond, Ralph, Dale, Charles Jr. all of East Liverpool, Ohio and Roy of Winfield, Louisiana; three daughters, Evelyn of East Liverpool, Eva of Akron, Ohio and Shirley, Winnfield <sic>, Louisiana. Services will be conducted by Stewart and Turley Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend Father Matt Nemec of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Pughtown.
