DIED AT THE HOSPITAL
Injuries Sustained by Bascom Sanford, Prove Fatal.
Bascom Sanford, aged 26 years, who was thrown off a box car at Salineville on Friday night died at Mercy hospital, Pittsburg on Saturday night.
Sanford was formerly a brakeman on the New Cumberland branch and for a year past was a brakeman on the C. & P. He was a single man and his parents live at Penrith, W. Va. He is well known in Hancock county and had many friends.
The remains were taken to the home at Penrith and the funeral will take place on Monday afternoon.

SAY THAT HE BLED TO DEATH
After Being Injured by the Cars at Salineville -- Alleged That He Received No Medical Attention There.
Bascom Sanford, who was run over by a freight car at Salineville on Fiday night and died at the Mercy hospital, Pittsburg, on Saturday night, is said to have bled to death and did not have proper medical attention until he reached Pittsburg.. It is claimed that he received no medical attention whatever at Salineville, but was kept there nearly , two hours, then taken to Wellsville and waited for a train for Pittsburg. Sanford's parents, who live at Penrith, W. Va., will bring suit against the railroad company for $15,000 for damages for alleged neglect to give proper care, to the young man.

AGED CITIZEN DIES
Asa Geer Passes Away at His Home Near Chester.
Asa Geer, the oldest citizen of Hancock county, died at his home about three miles from Chester, near the Washington school house, on Monday night.
Mr. Geer was aged 94 years and was one of the best known men in Hancock county. He had lived at the old homestead for over 50 years. Up until the last few months he was able to work in the fields. He was remarkably well preserved, his intellect clear, vision bright, and up until a year ago had the activity of a man of 50 years of age.
For several years he was the overseer of the poor in Hancock county and in early life took flatboots of produce down the Ohio and traded.
Mr. Geer was highly respected, always a good neighbor and a friend to all.
He leaves a good estate to be divided among his children, E. W. , B., A., Marion, Mrs. George Moore and Mrs. O. A. Lowery
The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the late home. Interment at the Nessley chapel cemetery.

William Edwin Foden, aged two years and 10 months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Foden of 893 Peake st., died Wednesday at 6:55 p.m. in St. Francis hospital in Pittsburg.
Besides his parents, the child leaves two brothers, Harry Smauel Foden and John Wilfred Foden, and two sisters, Ruth Esther Foden and Hazel Doris Foden, all at home, and his grandparents, Mrs. William Foden of East Liverpool and John Arnott of Racine
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Joseph F. Holtzman
Joseph F. Hotlzman, 73, died in his home in 328 Grant st., today at 8:30 a.m. following a brief illness.
Mr. Holtzman was a member of the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters and the St. Aloysius Catholic church.
He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Marie Faulk of East Liverpool and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held in St. Aloysius Catholic church Saturday at 9 a.m. in charge of Rev. Fr. Thomas E. Walsh, the pastor. Burial will be in St. Aloysius cemetery.
Friends may call a the home Friday night.

SARAH E. DOZZIE - Obituary

Mrs. Sarah E. Dozzie, widow of Alfred E. Dozzie, died in her home in 363 Garfield st. Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. following a brief illness.
Mrs. Dozzie has resided in East Liverpool for the past 38 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and John Washington chapter 68, Order of Eastern Star.
She leaves three grandchildren, Mrs. Eleanor Wilson and Mrs. Bernice Naylor of Cleveland and William Myers of Pittsburg, and six great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held in the home Friday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. J. H. Lawther, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
Friends may call at the home tonight.

BEAVER, Pa. -- Services will be held Saturday for Byrldene Virginia Smith Duncan, 81, of Dutch Ridge Road, formerly of West Virginia, who died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, a the Beaver Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Wallace, W. Va., a daughter of the late Forrest and Dana Dye Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Duncan Sr., in 1970; and a daughter, Marchita A. Williams, in 1986.
She is survived by a son, James E. Duncan Jr. of Monaca, Pa.; a sister, Edice Evelyn Hildreth of Clarksburg, W. Va.; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The services will be held at 1 p.m. a the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home of 329 East Main St., Clarksburg, W. Va. Burial will be in Wallace Linons Cemetery in Harrison County, W. Va.
The D. L. Williams Funeral Home of Midland is in charge of local arrangements.
