Ellen Jefferson
Died March 6, 2004

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ellen Jefferson, 84, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Calcutta Health Care Center, where she had been a patient one week.
Born in East St. Louis, Ill., Dec. 29, 1919, daughter of the late Owen Moore and Cassandres Bates Moore Davis, she was a member of the Sheridan A.M.E. Church, where she served as the financial secretary and a member of the trustee board. Active with the Women’s Auxiliary and Missionary groups at the church, she also participated in preparations for the World Day of Prayer.
She served with the U. S. Army during World War II and had lived for many years in East Liverpool.
Employed in the laboratory at East Liverpool City Hospital as a medical technician, she also worked as a caseworker for the social services in Lisbon.
Her husband, William Ersell Jefferson, whom she married Oct. 25, 1958, died in 1984. her Aunt, Vera Washington, who raised her, also preceded her in death.
A stepson, Orin Jefferson of Potomac Falls, Va., survives.
A brother-in-law, James Jefferson and his wife Geraldine of Freedom, Pa., and two sisters-in-law, Loretta C. Jefferson of Beaver Falls and Sarah Jefferson of Chicago, also survive along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Her neighbor and devoted friend, Shirley parsons and her family, also survive her.
Friends may call Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home two hours before the 3 pm. service, which will be conducted by the Pastor Larsie Frazier of the church.
Burial will be in Sunset Gardens in Millstadt, Ill.
The family suggests memorial contributions take the form of donations to Sheridan A. M. E. Church, 301 W. Ninth St., East Liverpool, OH 43920.
