NEWELL – Edwin L. Mercer, 68, of Congo died Monday, Feb. 27, 1995, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Newell March 22, 1926, a son of the late Wilbur and Okla Gilmore Mercer.
He was employed at the Newell Co. and was a truck driver for Panhandle Equipment. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Stalnaker Mercer, whom he married Sept. 9, 1991; two sisters, Bette Burch of Newell and Okla Hood of Jonesboro, Ga.; four nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Gilmore.
Pastor Richard Chambers of the Congo Church of the Nazarene will conduct services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nixon Funeral Home. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord military honors graveside at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
