NEW BRIGHTON, Pa.—
Gilford Leroy Hughes, 81, of 723 10th Ave., a former Midland resident, died today at the Beaver Valley Geriatric Center following a long illness.
An Army World War I veteran, Mr. Hughes was born March 20, 1901, in Hanging Rock, Ohio, son of Jerry Hughes and Milissa Wallace Hughes.
He retired as a yardmaster in the Transportation Department of Crucible Steel Division of Colt Industries in Midland, where he was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
He also was a member of the Glasgow Masonic Lodge 485 in Shippingport.
His wife, Mary Mabel Hughes, died in 1956.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hughes of New Brighton, and a brother, Ralph Hughes of Niles, Ohio.
Services are to be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the David D. Schwerha Funeral Home in Midland, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
The Rev. Michael Garner is the pastor.
Burial is to be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Industry.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Crucible Food Bank.
