Elmer Willis Swearingen
Died Jan. 30, 2004
NEW CUMBERLAND – Elmer Willis Swearingen, 90, of Valley St., passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Weirton, W.Va., a son of the late Elmer Ellsworth and Mary Wylie Swearingen. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruth Elizabeth McAtee Swearingen in 985; two brothers and a sister.
Elmer retired in 1973 from National Steel Corporations Tin Mill Dept., where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. Elmer also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and trinity United Methodist Church in New Cumberland and a member of the New Cumberland Lodge 22 AF&AM.
He is survived by three sons, Elmer Paul (Suzzanne) Swearingen, Hervey W. “Bill” (Patty) Swearingen and Robert (Dorothy) Swearingen all of New Cumberland; a daughter, Ann (Dean) Chamberlain of New Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Debra Ann Carpenter of Millersport, Ohio, Randall Chamberlain of Hurst, Texas, Denise Rowland of New Manchester, Marcy Dillon of New Cumberland, Sheila Hudson of Calcutta, Alan Swearingen of Dublin, Ohio, and Jody Mitchell of Basalt, Colo.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Turley Funeral Home, 109 N. Chester St., New Cumberland.
Services will be there Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Frank Lewis officiating.
Masonic graveside services will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Window Fund.
