Richard Earl Bennett, 76, of New Cumberland passed away Monday, March 31, 2003
He was born May 26, 1926 in New Cumberland, the son of the late Earl and Constance Carroll Bennett.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Virginia Sobel Bennett and three sisters, Jeanne Bennett, Ann Bennett and Edith Long.
He was a World War II United States Army veteran. He retired from Weirton Steel, after working 40 years in plant security. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, the New Cumberland VFW Adam Poe Post 3526, the American Legion and a past member of the Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee. He was a former Hancock County Deputy Sheriff.
He is survived by a son, Carroll Bennett and his wife, Cindy of Racine, WI; two daughters, Kim Robinson of Phoenix, AZ and Lee Bennett of Fort Myers, FL; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Frances) Watson of New Cumberland; a companion and friend, Jeanne Ann Gibson Chetock of New Cumberland; four grandchildren, Richard, Kevin, Timmothy and Tina; a special great nephew Justin and a special great niece Kaitlyn.
A Blessing Service will be held today, Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. with Father Ronald A. Getsinger officiating at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the New Cumberland Cemetery with the New Cumberland VFW conducting military services.
