Ernest Cooper
NEW CUMBERLAND – Ernest Lawrence Cooper, Sr, 80, of New Cumberland, died Wednesday at the Weirton Medical Center.
He was born April 20, 1918, in New Cumberland, the son of the late Malon and Lula May McClelland Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was employed as a crane repairman at the Weirton Steel Co., for 35 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club and was Protestant by faith. He served in the U. S. Army with the Motor Pool.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred McCoy Cooper, two sons, Ernest L. Jr. and Robert K. Cooper, both of Weirton, a sister, Marjorie Mechling of New Cumberland; three grandchildren; and a great grandchild.
He was preceded in dath by a sister, Sophie Schmidbauer, and a brother, Thurman Cooper.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Cumberland Chapel of the Nixon Funeral Home with pastor Lew Massey of the New Cumberland Christian Church officiating.
The New Cumberland VFW Post 3526 will accord full military honors graveside at Union Cemetery in New Manchester.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
