EAST LIVERPOOL – Services will be held Saturday for Raymond W. Mercer, 77, of Ambrose Avenue, who died at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Congo, W.Va., a son of the late Charlie Francis and Catherine Waddell Mercer.
A lifelong resident of the Tri-State Area, he was a handy man. He served with the U. S. Navy during WWII.
His wife, Mary E. Philabaum Mercer, died April 8, 1985. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Taylor.
He is survived by a son, Charles Junior Mercer of Ohio; two daughters, Dorothy Skidmore of Rogers and Mrs. Noah (Mary) Nichols of Cleveland; three brothers, Charles “Chuck” Mercer of Chester, Dale Mercer of East Liverpool and Roy Mercer of Louisiana; three sisters, Evelyn Taylor of East Liverpool, Eva Heft of Akron and Shirley Zaldez of Louisiana; and seven grandchildren.
Major Dorothy Woods of the Salvation Army will conduct the services at 11 a.m. at the Martin-
Altmeyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
