EAST LIVERPOOL -- Mrs. Ruth D. Mercer, 80, of Moore Street died at 7:47 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 1991, at the Robert E. Boyce Pavilion in City Hospital following a four-month illness.
She was born Oct. 5, 1910, at Wick, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lorenzo Owens and Elbira Smith Owens.
Mrs. Mercer had resided here since 1928. She formerly was employed at the Homer Laughlin China Co. and at the Sterling China Co. She was Presbyterian by faith.
Her first husband, William Smith died in 1982.
Survivors include her husband, John A. Mercer, whom she married Aug. 26, 1985; two stepsons, John J. Mercer and Clarence E. Smith of Wellsville; a step-daughter, Cathy D. Decrain of Lakewood, N.J.; two sisters, Wilma (Mrs. Robert) Sturtevant of Sweetland, Wyo., and Virginia Owens of Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Presley Owens of East Liverpool and Clarence Owens of Newell; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Robert Hull of the House of Prayer is to conduct services at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
Friends may call at the chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. Wednesday.
