CALCUTTA – Elsie P. Jeffries, 84, of the Calcutta Health Care Center died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Braxton County, W.Va., Dec. 18, 1916, a daughter of the late Mood W. and Ollie B. Friend.
She worked for City Hospital in the dietary department and was Southren Baptist by faith. She attended Shaws Fork Baptist Church while living in South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Jeffries, and a daughter, Olive Mae Jeffries.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Hazel) Walton of Lisbon; two sons, Robert E. Jeffries of Clinton, Ohio, and Jackie Lee Friend of Gassaway, W. Va.; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Duane Hetzer, chaplain at City Hospital, will conduct services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be at Aiken Memorial Park in Aiken, S. C.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.
