TORONTO – Joseph M. Downen, 87, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center-West in Steubenville.
He was born in Jerusalem, Ohio, June 17, 1914, a son of the late Nobel C. and Meletta A. Millison Downen.
He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. Steubenville Plant as an inspector in the cold strip department. He was a Presbyterian.
He is survived by his wire, Eleanor N. Byers Downen, at home; two sons, Ronald E. Downen of Bloomingdale and Rick A. Downen of Toronto; two daughters, Sandra Shook of Toronto and Debbie Downen of Roswell, N. M.; a brother, William Downen of Steubenville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great grandchild.
The Rev. Robert Phillips will conduct a Memorial service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarke Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ft. Steuben Burial Estates.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, where a Toronto Eagles service will be conducted at 7 and a Jenkins Masonic Lodge service will be conducted at 7:30.
