EAST LIVERPOOL – Mrs. Opal I Mercer, 80, of Annesley Road died Monday, July 22, 1991, at home following a lengthy illness..
She was born at St. Marys, W.Va., Jan. 3, 1911, a daughter of the late James Higgins and Artie L. J. Lock Higgins.
A resident of East Liverpool since 1955, Mrs. Mercer was a member of the Grace Baptist Temple Church, and was a former member of the Jolly Sixties.
Her husband, Abraham Mercere, whom she married in 1943, died in 1958. She alos was preceded in death by a son, William F. Higgins.
Survivors include a son, Robert D. Higgins of East Liverpool; a daughter, Elenor (Mrs. Norval) Powell of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a stepson, Glen Mercer of Akron, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Rose Higgins of Chester; three sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Paul) Davis and Winnie (Mrs. Smith) Shingleton of St. Marys and Lulubelle (Mrs. Gene) Henry of Parkersburg; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Kern of Aliquippa, Pa., s to conduct services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Martin Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.
Friends may call a the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
