EAST PALESTINE -- Marion W. Mayes, 77, of East Liverpool R. D. 1, died Sunday morning at Massillon State Hospital, where he had been a patient.
A retired coal miner, he was the son of James and Elizabeth Adkins Mayes. He was born May 21, 1876, at Calcutta.
Mr. Mayes was married December 1899 to Gertrude Lambright, who died in 1946
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Ruth VankKirk of East Liverpool R. D. 1, Mrs. Josephine Odum and Mrs. Elizabeth Cumberlidge, both of Kimball, W. Va., Mrs. Mildred Brand of Smiths Ferry R. D. 1 and Mrs. Juliette Drisko of Hubbard; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Ramsey of Steubenville; a half brother, Frank Mayes of North Canton, a half sister, Miss Carrie Mayes of Alliance; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Van Dyke Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Dyke of the Fredericktown Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Achor Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday night at the funeral home.
