LANCASTER, OHIO – Helen M. Brokaw, 85, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at her residence in Lancaster.
Mrs. Brokaw was born Jan. 4, 1916, the daughter of the late Stanley and Rose Weyrick Mathews and with the exception of the past two years, she spent most of her life in East Liverpool where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was very much involved with the First United Methodist Women’s groups and all the church activities as well as being an active member of the Coterie Club along with the Eastern Stars. Mrs. Brokaw also enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Tracy Mathis, of Show Low, Ariz.; two sons, Bill and his wife Michelle Brokaw of Lancaster and Tom and his wife Debbie Brokaw of Colorado Springs, Colo. There is a sister, Peg Winters of Willoughby, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brokaw was preceded in death by her husband, attorney G. William Brokaw, April 28, 1995; and two sisters, Virginia Vail and Jane Fuhrer.
Friends will be received at the Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 7 Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Brokaw’s name to the First United Methodist Church 200 W. 5th St., East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
