Died Nov. 17, 2003

LAKELAND, Fla. – Barbara A. Smith, 79, of Howard Street, died at 6:07 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at a Milton Avenue, East Liverpool, residence following a lengthy illness.
Born in Canton, Ohio, Sept. 14, 1924, a daughter of the late Ralph and Effie Hoover Aungst, she attended Miami University of Ohio, where she studied Fine Arts with a concentration in music and painting. An avid Bridge player and gourmet cook, she had a lifelong interest in classical music and was a concert pianist who actively supported the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for many years. She was also a member of the Colonial Club of East Liverpool.
Her husband, Richard B. Smith, whom she married in September 1949, survives.
A daughter, Amy A. Smith of East Liverpool, survives along with a son. Dr. Richard B. Smith III of Weston, VT., and a grandson, Richard B. Smith IV of Cleveland.
A sister, Gloria Aungst, preceded her in death.
The Rev. Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Riverview Cemetery Chapel, where friends may call an hour before the service.
Burial will be in the Smith Family Mausoleum in Riverview Cemetery.
The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts, 600 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222-3259.
