Gary E. Shoaf
Died Aug. 25, 2004
CHESTER – Gary E. Shoaf, 55, died peacefully at 2:07 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for six months. Loved ones surrounded him when his brave struggle ended.
Born Feb. 6, 1949, in New Castle, Pa., he was a son of Guy and Eileen (Hammond) Shoaf.
His parents raised Gary in New Castle, where he attended Union High School. He was self-employed as the owner and operator of Shoaf Roofing and Construction. He later sought employment as a cashier at Mountaineer Racetrack & Gaming Resort.
His early interests entailed stock car racing and astronomy until he met his devoted wife Marjorie.
Surviving is his loving wife, Marjorie Obney (Stefl) Shoaf.
He was the loving father of Kimberly Elliott and her husband Tom of New Cumberland; Lori Thomas and her husband Paul of New Wilmington, Pa.; Kenny G. Stefl Jr. and his wife Rose of Elkton, Ohio; Brian G. Shoaf of New Castle; Ashley Rhonda Stefl of Negley; and Steven K. Shoaf of Pittsburgh, Pa. Four sisters also survive; Dama Shoaf of Ft. Myers, Fla., Sherry Ubrey and husband Paul “Dude”of New Castle Pa, Lori Henry and her husband Gary of New Castle and Leann O’Ricco and her husband Sam of New Castle. In addition there are seven grandchildren; Michael and David Murphy , Jennifer and Jason Elliott, Tyler Shoaf, Jared and Autumn Grace Thomas and Briely Stefl. There are also two great-grandchildren, Stephenie Anne Elliott and Connor O’Brien Murphy.
Preceding him in death was his loving yorkie, Sassie.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Arner Funeral Chapel, 607 Carolina Ave, Chester
The Rev. Debra Dague of the Chester First United Methodist Church will conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all that supported Gary and Marge by expressing their love and compassion during their illness.
