Joseph L. Smusz

PRESCOTT VALLEY, ARIZ. – Joseph L. Smusz died Friday, June 25, 2004, after a lengthy illness.
He was born August 5, 1919 in Chester, WV, son of the late Anthony and Sophia Sagan Smusz.
He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and later worked for security at the State Capitol in Phoenix.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Bankwitz) Smusz, whom he married Aug. 5,1957, at home, a niece, Susan Bankwitz, whom he helped raise, of Irvine, Calif.; a brother, John Smusz of Chester; and sisters, Bernice Smusz and Julia Glass of Chester and Anne Blaner and Mary Macey of Toronto. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanely and his siter, Mildred.
He served in World War II and was a Prisoner of War in Germany for 27 months.
He was a member of the Sacred Hearts Roman Catholic Church in Prescott.
Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Chester.
