Hilda “Tillie” Carlisle
Died Dec. 5, 2003
LISBON – Hilda C. “Tillie” Carlisle, 85, of West Washington Street, went home to be with the Lord at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Carlisle was born Feb. 16, 1918, in East Liverpool, the daughter of the late Robert and Nellie T. Dailey Reed. She moved to Lisbon in 1966 after living in West Point for most of her life.
A 1936 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Tillie first worked for the Thomas Works during the war. The she worked 17 years the Golden Star Dairy, 14 years as a cook for the County Home, and 11 years at the Columbiana County Jail until her retirement from there in 1987. At her retirement, she received official congratulations from State Rep. John D. Shivers and Ohio House Speaker Vern Riffe. She also was named “Citizen of the Week.”
A member of the Lisbon Church of the Nazarene, Tillie also was a member of the Lisbon Senior Citizens, the Wayne Township Homemakers, was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge, and the Daughters of America.
Her husband, Fred W. Carlisle Sr., whom she married Oct. 9, 1936, preceded her in death Dec. 3, 1978.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Lee (Marilyn) Hamblen of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Mrs. Cheryl “Sue” Macuich of Jasper, Ind.; her son, Fred W. Carlisle Jr. of Lisbon; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carlisle was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Jean Harrison; her grandson, Jeffrey Hamblen; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Fellenger officiating. Burial will follow in Lisbon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Lisbon Church of the Nazarene, 505 N. Market St., Lisbon, Ohio 4443, or to the Hospice of the Valley, 2235 E. Pershing St., Salem, Ohio 44460.
