Wilma Louise Wharton, 70, of RD 2, New Cumberland passed away Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born March 14, 1928 in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Mildred I (Clegg) Sams. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Robert and Kenneth; two sisters, Mabel and Lucille and one grandson, Aaron Ireland.
She was a member of the New Cumberland Church of Christ, the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Weirton Woman’s Bowling Association.
Surviving are her husband, Bartlett J. Wharton, Sr.; two sons, Robert Wharton and Bartlett J. sharton, Fr., both of Weirton; seven daughters, Mrs. Russell (Linda) Waide of Weirton, Mrs. Dennis (Susan) Ireland, Jr. of Krnaich of Weirton, Mrs. Greg (Karen Wearsch of Rockford, IL., Mrs. Richard (Denise) Decker of New Cumberland and Donna Evano Wharton of Weirton; two sisters, Janet Nichols of Williamstown, WV and Priscilla Sands of Vienna, WV; three brothers, Harry Sams of Bens Run, WV, Larry Sams and William Sams, both of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 31. 1998 at the New Cumberland Church of Christ at Christ at 11:00 a.m. with Evangelist Richard B. Brewer officiating. Interment was made at the Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee.
Turley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
