William c. “Bill” Chambers Sr., 70, of County Road 66, passed away Friday, March 6, 1998, at Weirton Medical Center.
He was born June 15, 1927 in New Cumberland, a son of the late John F. and Alice (Holstead) Chambers.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club, and the Toronto American Legion Post 86. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Pacific-Asiatic Theatre of Operations in World War II. He also served in the Navy. He was retired from the National Steel Co. Weirton Steel Division as a wireman in the tin mill.
Surviving are his wife, Ell M. (Robertson) Chambers, whom he married May 25, 1953; two sons, David of Xenia and William C. Jr. of Akron; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Alice) Boring of Akron, Cynthia Chambers and Melissa Talamonti of Toronto; one brother, Kenneth of New Cumberland; one sister, Mary Katherine Cassasi of Davenport, FL; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 10, 1998 at the Clarke Funeral Home in Toronto at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Kelley officiating. Burial followed at the Island Creek Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Toronto American Legion .
