Marlene Evelyn (Parrish) Thayer, 74, of Grand Ledge, Michigan passed away Saturday, March 28, 1998 at her residence.
She was born in Allegan, MI, the only child of the late Milton E. and Vera E. Van Valkenberg Parrish.
She married Melvin C. “Bill” Thayer, in 1959 in New Cumberland. He preceded her in death in 1989 at age 85.
Marlene lived in Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia and Michigan. She has worked as a public, school and university librarian; library consultant; teacher and in financial positions in advertising and design. Her early education was received in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Her college work was done at Ohio Wesleyan and Kent State universities earning degrees in liberal art, education and library science.
A genealogist by avocation, she has been the family historian. She retired from the State Library of Michigan in 1990.
Surviving are an uncle, S. W. Parrish of Dowell, MD; 23 first cousins plus very dear cousins, Ronald Chase, Jean Elllinger, Marge Kalec and Diane Rider; two special friends, Gen VanEpps and Beverly Germain and her beloved cat, Tuli.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 1, 1998 t 1 p.m. at the Douglas Cemetery, Douglas, Michigan. Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge was in charge of funeral arrangements. Memorial may be made to the Grand Ledge Library Memorial Fund.
