Mrs. Mary Johnson Bartram Beede
Died Monday, June 24, 2002

YOUNGSTOWN – Mrs. Mary Johnson Bartram Beede, 97, formerly of Poland, Ohio, died at 11:25 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at the Park Vista Retirement Home in Youngstown, where she resided.
Born in Poland March 25, 1905, daughter of the late Charles W. and Edna Haas Smith, she was a 1922 graduate of Rayen High School and previously attended Poland Seminary High School.
A member of the Poland Presbyterian Church since 1918, she was an elder and served on the board of trustees, the board of deacons, as well as president of the Women’s Association at one time. Additionally, she was a member and leader of the Friendship Circle along with holding membership in the Mariners Group of the church.
She also held membership in the Clio II Club and was a past president of the fortnightly II Club and a charter member and past president of the Four Square Wives Club. She was a member of the RSVP Committee at Park Vista Retirement Home, where hs served as a volunteer for many years.
Her first husband, Raymond “Curly” Johnson, director of Camp Fitch and Youngstown YMCA Boys’ Secretary, preceded her in death in 1935. Her second husband, Newton A. Bartram, a past president of the Ohio Elks Association and president of Bartram Oil Co. died in 1971. Her third Husband, Dwight V. “Dike” Beede, head football coach at Youngstown State University, died in 1972.
Two daughters survive her, Dr. JoAnne Johnson Trow and her husband, Clifford Trow, of Corvallis, Ore., and Elizabeth Bartram Lane of Denver, Colo. A son, Philip Jhonson, and his wife, Peggy, of Greensboro, N. C., survive as well.
Two stepdaughters, Mrs. Frank C. (Gretchen Beede) Dawson of East Liverpool and Mrs. John (Susan Beede) Stephens of Elkton, also survive.
There are nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Jerald L. Fennell, parish associate, will conduct services at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the Poland Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received in the church parlor immediately following the service
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Poland, where a private graveside service will be held Monday with Dr. Robert Hoover of the church officiating.
The Dawson Funeral Hoe of East Liverpool is in charge of the arrangements.
