Melvin Arthur Crago, 83, of New Cumberland passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born January 25, 1925 in New Cumberland, a son of the late Charles Cooper and Esther (Wylie) Crago. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin C. “Butch” Crago; two brothers, Raymond and Wesley Crago and two sisters, Eleanor Stevens and Burnice Hummell. Melvin retired from Williams Country Club with 53 years of service as a greens keeper. He was a social member of the VFW post #3526 and attended the New Cumberland Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Lane (Tingler) Crago, at home; two daughters, Mona (Allen) Katzenmeyer and Sondra (Frank) Nalley’ two step-s0ns, Alvin Chambers and John (Cindy) Chambers; two step-daughters, Ellen (Virgil) Wickham, Jr. and Tina (Hugh) Tate, all of New Cumberland; a sister, Dorthea (Audley ) Keifer of Clinton; 34 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Turley Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the New Cumberland Cemetery.
