WELLSVILLE – Robert S. Dowling, 89, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at East Liverpool City Hospital.
He was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Bellaire, Ohio, the son of the late Doarse ad Blanche (Ralston) Dowling.
He was an open hearth operator for Macintosh-Hemphill manufacturing in Pittsburgh before retiring in 1971. Bob was a member of Elks Lodge 1040 and a social member of American Legion Post 70.
His wife, Evelyn Long Dowling, whom he married April 8, 1939, died in 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Dowling and his wife Janet of Highlandtown and James “Ed” Dowling and his wife Sally of Wellsville; grandson, Kirk Dowling of Salinville; grandson, Eric Dowling of Wellsville; granddaughter, Kelly Malone of Calcutta; grandson, Kip Dowling of Highlandtown; granddaughter, Tonia Hall of Wellsville; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville, with the Rev. Bruce Ballantine of the Covenant Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery in Wellsville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
