Died Dec. 28, 2003

HANOVERTON – Rodger Ross Headley, 76, of 11997 Bethesda Road, died following a short illness at his home, Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at 1:50 a.m. Born July 7, 1927, in antrim, Ohio, he was the son of Charles and Florence (Russell) Headley.
He retired as a technician after 29 ½ years from the East Ohio Gas Co. (Dominion). Former employers were the Pennsylvania Railroad, Whitacre Tile, Scio Pottery and the A & P Packing Co.
He was a 45-year member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where he had served as a trustee. During ‘World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Seaman II Class serving aboard the USS Ajax and he USS Lexington.
H enjoyed hunting and fishing, flowers, traveling, Western Square Dancing and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a 33-year member of Wally Byan Travel Club, and had spent 15 winters in Melbourne, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Ruth (Barber) whom he married June 25, 1947; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Licklider f Louisville, Ohio, and Mrs. Terry (Cindy) McCombs of Hanoverton; two brothers, Gilbert of Carlton, Ga., and Joe of Milwaukie, Ore.; one sister, Sally Headley of Chesapeake, Va.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a three-year-old sister, Maxine; a niece and a nephew.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church at 2 pm. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, with Pastor tom Allmon officiating. Final resting place will be Sunset View Cemetery in Londonberry, Ohio. There will be no calling hours. Friends and relatives may visit the family after the service in the social room at the church.
