Ruth Orr Irwin

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ruth Orr Irwin, 88, formerly of Berkshire Road, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Fox Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Born in East Liverpool, Feb. 6, 1916, daughter of the late John C. and Edith Veigel Orr, she was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1933 and the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing Class of 1939. She continued as a supervisor of surgery there for a year and a half.
A member of St. John Lutheran Church and nearly a lifelong resident of the area, she worked as a nurse at East Liverpool City Hospital for many years.
A member of East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and its Olde Guard, she also was active in Child Study. She was a member of the East Liverpool Country Club for 50 years.
Her husband, Philip P. Irwin Sr., whom she married March 25, 1939, died Aug. 24, 1993.
Two sons, David M. Irwin and his wife Linda of Greenville, Ohio and Philip P. Irwin Jr. and his wife Sue of East Liverpool, survive.
A sister, Dorothy M. Scott of Chester, also survives.
There are four grandchildren, Patrick Irwin and his wife Kajeen of Oxford, Ohio, Chad Irwin of Cleveland, Christopher Irwin and his wife Valerie of Stow, Ohio and Kimberly Irwin of Athens, Ohio.
Two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a niece, Mary Alice Irwin of Washington, D.C., and two nephews, William Irwin and his wife Molly of East Liverpool and Roger Irwin and his wife Janet of Marietta, Ga.
Friends may call Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home, tow hours before the 2 pm.. service, which will be conducted by the Rev. Katrina Lewis of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Immediately following burial, family and friends will gather in fellowship at he Dawson Family Center.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, P. O. Box 986, East Liverpool, OH 43920.
