HOOKSTOWN – Geraldine E. Swaney, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at the Medical Center, Beaver, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., July 5, 1920, a daughter of the late David F. and Mary E. Graham Lemon.
She retired as a cook for the South Side School District after 30 years service. She was a member of the Mill Creek United Presbyterian Church of Hookstown and its women’s association, the Hookstown Grange 1980 and the Mill creek Valley Historical Society. She was active as a cook and baker of the Hookstown Fair for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Hall Swaney, in 1960, and three brothers. Scott Lemon, Gilbert Lemon and Robert P. Lemon.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry H. Swaney of Hookstown and Duane and Linda Swaney of Beaver; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Catherine V.) Andrews of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Naomi W. Dixon of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Lemon Lagota of Springhill, Fla., and Jennie Lemon of California; two nieces, Kathleen Woodman and Louise Simm; and special family friends.’ Friends will be received from 7 to 9 tonight and form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Welch Funeral Home in Hookstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mill creek United Presbyterian Church of Hookstown by the rev. John Kerr, her pastor. Burial will be in Mill Creek Hill Cemetery, Hookstown.
