CHESTER –Kenneth R. Williams, 78, of Plutus Avenue, died peacefully at home Wednesday, July 18, 2001
He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Chester, a son of the late Oscar and Virginia Lake Williams.
A lifelong resident of Chester, Kenny served as Fifth Ward councilman for 15 years, faithfully representing his many friends as well as being a city police officer during the 1960s. he retired in 1981 from the former Globe Refractories plant in Newell, where he was a supply clerk and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester
Kenny honorably served his country during World War II in the Army where he fought with Company D Fourteenth Tank Battalion in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters, receiving a theater service medal with five Bronze Stars for his efforts.
Locally, he was a member of the Chester American Legion Post 121 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6450 and was one of the local veterans honored this spring by the United States Veterans Administration for their achievements.
He is survived at home by his loving wife, Stella, whom he married Sept. 6, 1941; a son, James R. (LaRue) Williams of Tucson, Ariz., a daughter, Mrs. James (Sandy) Dickey of East Liverpool; four sisters, Mrs. Jack (Ruby) Leak of East Liverpool, Mrs. Betty Powell of Chester, Mrs. Dewayne (Barbara) Henderson of Hookstown, Pa., and Mrs. Patty Jones of Chicago, Ill.; three granddaughters, Tina Dickey, Mrs. Joseph (Terri) Samchuck and Jessica Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Hanna Elizabeth Dickey.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil “Bunk” Williams and William Williams.
Father Rodger Hughes will conduct a Christian Mass service at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church prior to burial at Locust Hill Cemetery, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord military honors.
