James D. Summers, 77, of Weirton, died on Monday April 27, 2009 at Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville following a brief illness.
He was born July 4, 1931 in Hollidays Cove, a son of the late Carl and Alta Summers. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Summers; and six brothers, Carl Jr., Robert, Gene, Royce “Pete”, Carroll “Mouse”, and David Summers.
Jim retired as a millwright in the coke plant at National Steel in Weirton where he was a member of the 25 year club. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, and served in the Korean Conflict. A member of the Philadelphia Church of God, he was a life member of the Tri-State Marine Corps.
H is survived by his wife, Shirley Summers; three sons, David (Linda) Summers of Richmond, OH, Michael Summers of Weirton, and Randy (Colleen) Summers of Warwood; a daughter, Diane Morton of Charlottesville, VA; a brother, Jack Minger of Colliers; a sister, Carolyn Krynecki of New Cumberland; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family and burial will be private. Arner Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
