EAST LIVERPOOL – Richard F. Sakmar, R. N., of Hill Boulevard, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at home of an apparent heart attack.
He was born June 27, 1954, a son of the late Frank Sakmar and Ann Dzurnak Sakmar of Campbell, Ohio.
Mr. Sakmar spent most of his life in Champbell, Ohio, until moving to East Liverpool in 1996. He worked as a registered nurse at the Beaver Medical Center in the cardiopulmonary department. He previously had worked for 18 years at the East Liverpool City Hospital emergency room. He also had worked at Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Richard was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Campbell where he was a member of the Rosary Society and the infant Jesus of Praque Guild. While in East Liverpool he attended First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a member of the Koinonia Sunday school class.
Mr. Sakmar graduated from Campbell High School in 1972 and earned his nursing degree at Youngstown State University. He enjoyed gardening and Christmas decorating.
In addition to his mother, his wife, Margaret Channels Sakmar, survives him at home, whom he married August 24, 1996. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Scott D. (Carla) Heldenbrand of Ashland, Ohio, and Marjorie Channels of East Liverpool; two sons and their wives, Michael A. and Lucia Channels of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Mark A. and Lynda Channels of Wellsville; and one sister, Mrs. Edward (Nancy) McAtee of Youngstown, Ohio. In addition, two grandchildren, Katie Channels and Megan Heldenbrand, and an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Marian Dzurnak of Campbell, Ohio survive.
Friends may call a the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Larry Hall of the church officiating.
